Purpose
To establish the criteria and procedures for awarding and renewing Honors Academy Academic Merit
Scholarships.
Procedure
A. Rules of Eligibility
1. Students who wish to apply for Honors Academy Academic Merit Scholarships must:
a. Have a valid high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) on file with the
College.
b. Have all transcripts evaluated and meet the specific Scholarship grade point average (GPA)
requirement of a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.5 for First Time in College
(FTIC) students or at least 12 credits of college-level coursework with a cumulative GPA of
3.5 for continuing students including Dual Enrollment or Early College students.
c. Submit an Honors Academy application including a personal essay to the Collegewide Honors
Academy Selection Committee.
d. Indicate anticipated enrollment status for the upcoming semester—part-time of 6-11 hours or
full-time of 12 or more hours.
e. Meet specified application deadlines.
2. All Honors Academy Academic Merit Scholarship applications will be reviewed by the
Collegewide Honors Academy Selection Committee, appointed annually by the Vice President of
the College/Provost and consisting of representation by the Honors Academy Faculty Advisor.
3. The Selection Committee will screen applications according to designated criteria of academic
merit and essay evaluation. The number and amount of awards will be based upon the available
scholarship budget. Typical awards will cover two terms during the academic year.
4. Selected applicants will be sent notification of award status with information about academic and
extracurricular expectations of Honors Academy Scholars, deadlines for acceptance of the award,
and the submission of the Scholarship Acceptance Contract (SAC).
5. After the designated deadline, the Selection Committee will submit copies of signed SAC’s and
the list of scholarship awardees (Honors Academy Scholars) to the scholarship department. The
scholarship department will disburse funds in accordance with the Honors Academy Scholars list.
B. Continued Eligibility
1. Full-time Honors Academy Scholars must enroll in at least 2 Honors-designated courses or
complete a contract with faculty for Honors enhancements in at least 2 courses in their first

semester of membership. Part-time Honors Academy Scholars must enroll in at least 1 Honorsdesignated course or complete a contract with faculty for Honors enhancements in at least 1 course
in their first semester of membership. This Honors enrollment pattern must continue through the
Honors Academy Scholars’ tenure in the program.
2. All Honors Academy Scholars must participate in the required Interdisciplinary Honors (IDH)
course(s) within the first two semesters of membership. This requirement will count towards the
Honors-designated course(s) needed for program continuation.
3. All Honors Academy Scholars must participate in designated Honors Academy extracurricular
programs as listed in the Scholarship Acceptance Contract.
4. Honors Academy Scholars will be allowed to attempt college credits up to the degree requirements
of their designated program of study. This program of study can be a certificate, an Associate
degree, or a Bachelor’s degree.
5. At the end of each term, records of Honors Academy Scholars will be reviewed by members of the
Collegewide Honors Academy Selection Committee. Students who have withdrawn from more
than one class, who have failed to meet the required cumulative college credit GPA of 3.5, who
have failed to successfully complete any Honors enhancement contracts, or who have otherwise
failed to meet the requirements listed in the SAC will be informed their scholarship grant will not
be renewed unless it is authorized by the appropriate Dean.
6. Students will have the opportunity to appeal loss of a scholarship if there are extenuating
circumstances. All appeals will be evaluated by the Associate Vice President of Educational
Programs. Students will be notified in writing of the decision of the appeal.
7. Students will have the opportunity to request a change of their award status from full-time to parttime or from part-time to full-time by a designated deadline. These requests will be considered by
the Collegewide Honors Academy Selection Committee based upon available funds.
8. Each semester, the Collegewide Honors Academy Selection Committee will send the scholarship
department a list of Honors Academy Scholars and their scholarship award amount, including any
variance due to change in enrollment status. The scholarship department will disburse funds in
accordance with the Honors Academy Scholars list submitted each semester.
9. Honors Academy Scholars must submit a new Scholarship Acceptance Contract each academic
year during their tenure in the program to maintain eligibility.
10. Eligible Honors Academy Scholars will have their grant terminated once they have met their
degree requirements or have attempted the credit maximum for their intended primary program of
study, whichever comes first.
