The Faculty of Arts at Monash University is one of the largest, most diverse and dynamic arts faculties in Australia. Page 2 of 4 School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics Monash University has recently received a grant from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan that will fund the position of a Lecturer in Taiwan Studies. This grant is for a period of up to three years, with annual reviews to confirm its continuation for each of the second and third years. The school is now seeking to recruit a suitably experienced candidate to a full time, fixed term position for the first twelve months of the grant. Applications are requested from scholars who have a strong record in researching and/or teaching in Taiwan Studies. The lecturer will conduct research in Taiwan Studies, teach in a related area and, if appropriate, co-supervise PhD and MA research students. The position is located on the Clayton campus, within the Chinese Studies program of the School of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics, one of the largest schools in the Faculty of Arts http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/chinese/. The School has 19 academic programs and centres offering studies at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level. The School teaches on-campus at Clayton, Caulfield and through distributed learning. The School has more than 60 academic staff, 60 sessional academic staff, 11 professional staff, and an EFTSU of 1000 over all levels and in all modes. Capacity to teach in an area of Taiwan Studies at all undergraduate and postgraduate levels dependent upon the appointee’s areas of interest. 2. Preparation and assessment of student assignments and examinations 3. Willingness to engage in curriculum development and with innovative teaching practices. Research 1. Engage in original and innovative research and will maintain a dynamic research and publication record in an area of Taiwan Studies. 2. Participate actively in the collaborative research culture of the school and faculty. 3. Participate in co-supervision of research students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Administration 1. Perform a range of administrative functions connected with the unit/s in which the academic teaches. 2. Administrative functions that relate to research and the Taiwan studies development and public community profile. 3. Assist with international conferences and with the preparation of lectures and seminars concerned with Taiwan Studies. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: Essential 1. A PhD (or near completion) or equivalent in a relevant field 2. Ability to develop and deliver innovative and exciting teaching in Taiwan Studies 3. The applicant must have the capacity to deal efficiently with academic and administrative tasks relevant to the position 4. The applicant must be able to demonstrate a dynamic research and publication record, and a well defined research agenda 5. Outstanding skills in written and verbal communication 6. Ability to work as part of a team. Desirable 1. Experience in (co-)supervising research students 2. High quality teaching experience at tertiary level 3. Experience in working in research or teaching teams.
