Collection of DNA samples by mouth swab method Sample collection kit contents: Collection tubes containing integral swab 1.5 ml tubes containing 1 ml of 0.05 M EDTA, 0.5& SDS preservation solution. Procedure 1. Remove swab from tube and rub along both cheeks inside mouth for about 20 seconds. 2. Pour the entire contents of the 1.5 ml tub in to the swab tube and replace the swab. Discard the empty 1.5 ml tube. 3. Wrap some insulation tape around the top of the tube / tube lid to prevent the lid of the tube from becoming dislodged. Mark the tube with a number that corresponds to the number on the sample data sheet. It is best to mark the tube in 2 or 3 places with the sample number. You may also use the sticky label provided. 4. Mix to make sure that the 0.05 M EDTA, 0.05% SDS preservative solution comes in contact with swab. 5. (Ask the volunteer to fill out the sample data sheet or help them fill it out.) 6. Store tubes containing collected material upright and in fridge or freezer whenever possible.
