ENROLLMENT INFORMATION To simplify the problem of organizing a course of study for any high school student, it is convenient to arrange the subject matter of the curriculum into nine groups: English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Vocational Education, Fine Arts, Foreign Languages, Business Education, and Physical Education. An accredited high school must offer at least six of these groups and no student should graduate until he has successfully completed (28) units of work selected according to the following plan. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS – Each student must successfully complete 28 units of credit as listed below: (A) Four (4) units of English. (B) Three (3) units of Mathematics (C) Three (3) units of Science (D) Three (3) units of Social Science (E) One unit of Physical Education, which includes health education. (F) *One half unit of either Consumer Resource Management, Personal Finance, or Real World Math (G) One unit of Fine Arts (H) The remaining 12 units may be selected by the student from our electives list * Pending Board of Education approval College-Bound recommendations It is recommended that those students who plan to attend a college in KS after graduating from Neodesha High School should follow the Regents Qualified Admissions Curriculum as listed below. The Kansas Regents Universities (all 4-year Universities) require: 4 units of English, 3 units of Math: Algebra I and II and Geometry (Must be taken during HS years), 3 units of Science: Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, or Physics (At least one unit must be Chemistry or Physics), 3 units of Social Science and one unit of Computer Technology. This list of classes are for those students graduating through the 2013-2014 school year. For those students graduating in the 2014-2015 and after school years the math requirements change to: 3 units of Math Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, or any course with Alg. II as a prerequisite AND must have a 22 or better on Math portion of ACT OR must have 4 units of Math-Alg.I, Alg. II, Geometry, and any course with Alg. II as a prerequisite. All Math classes must be taken during HS years. In addition you must have 3 approved Units from the following electives: Natural Science, Social Science, Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Drama/Forensics, Journalism, Career and Tech. Education. To be considered as a State Scholar you must also take in addition to the Qualified Admissions courses: 1 upper level math course, MUST have Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with a fourth year of science recommended and 2 years of the same Foreign Language (must both be taken while in High School) SCHEDULE CHANGES All schedule changes are to be made by the end of the first week of classes in each semester, and student must have parental permission to make the change. COMMUNITY SERVICE DISTINCTION- Students who accumulate 100 hours of approved community service during their high school years will be eligible for community service distinction at graduation. This Distinction will be noted on the graduation program and these students will receive a medallion in the commemoration of this distinction. Deadlines for Community Service hours will be due on the following dates: Summer hours must be turned in by last day of September, Fall hours must be turned in by last day of January, and Spring hours must be turned in by last day of April.
