University Campus Suffolk ALUMNI AMBASSADOR SCHEME Alumni Ambassador Job Description and Further Information Due to the success of the Student Ambassador scheme, the UCS Alumni and Development team have established an Alumni Ambassador scheme. Being part of the Alumni Ambassador scheme allows graduates to share their unique knowledge about UCS and to continue to stay involved with UCS life. The Alumni of UCS are valuable in their experience and enthusiasm about UCS, and as a result, are some of our most important ambassadors in the outside world. UCS engages in a wide range of promotional and recruitment activities and Alumni Ambassadors will become part of these activities to support recruitment and promotion of the institution. Alumni Ambassadors will have the opportunity to support the Alumni and Development, Student Recruitment and Marketing teams through a number of activities including: helping at admissions focused events, providing a graduate’s perspective, visiting schools, attending recruitment events, helping with fundraising campaigns, setting up reunions, participating in local community events. Alumni Ambassadors will become the face of the UCS Alumni Association. The opportunities for Alumni Ambassadors are listed below. Alumni Ambassadors are encouraged to get involved in areas/activities of particular interest to them. These opportunities are not exhaustive and the Alumni and Development Team welcome other ideas and initiatives from Alumni. Open days and Visit days Alumni Ambassadors to have a stand at these events, to talk informally with prospective students about their UCS experience. There will also be opportunities for Alumni to deliver short talks about their experience, within Student Life or Careers talks. School/college visits The Student Recruitment team are regularly invited into schools to talk about a range of issues in higher education including applying, students finance, and preparing for higher education. Where appropriate, Alumni Ambassadors will be invited to accompany the team to schools to talk about their own experiences whilst at UCS and upon graduation. Alumni will be encouraged to build links with their old schools where appropriate/possible. Higher education conventions and careers fairs Alumni Ambassadors may be invited to attend Higher Education Conventions and school careers fairs in the UK, EU and Internationally. Alumni reunions and events September 2010 Whether you are based in the UK, EU or are an International alumni, Alumni Ambassadors will support the Alumni and Development team by setting up small reunion events both locally around the world. Testimonials, quotes and interviews The UCS Marketing team often require quotes or profiles from graduates for external publications, such as the prospectus. The Alumni Ambassadors will be approached to provide their own testimonials. Online blogs The Alumni Portal is our main communication tool with alumni. Alumni Ambassadors will be asked to provide regular online blogs on the portal and our facebook pages encouraging other alumni to keep in touch. Providing constant updates of what the Alumni Association and other alumni are up to. Fundraising and development Alumni and Ambassadors will help and support the Alumni and Development with fundraising activities and campaigns and other development work. Community Engagement activities UCS organises and participates in a variety of events throughout the year to encourage the community to engage with UCS. Alumni Ambassadors may be asked to support these events, particularly if living locally to any of the UCS Centres. International Alumni Ambassadors International Alumni will be encouraged to support/mentor students from their home country during their first few months at UCS. International Alumni Ambassadors will also act as point of contact between UCS and alumni in their country, helping us to maintain our relationship with our graduates living and working overseas. Our Ambassadors will help host events for fellow alumni, serve as contact points for students in their area, and assist UCS staff and students travelling or studying abroad. Terms and Conditions Graduates involved in the Alumni Ambassador Scheme will: • have completed a degree at UCS • be required to provide a valid email address to the Alumni and Development team • inform their employer that they are involved in the scheme • attend a general training session Hours of Work The Alumni Ambassador scheme is a voluntary scheme, and as such, there will be no minimum hours of work. Criminal Records Check Appointment to the pool of Alumni Ambassadors will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. Financial Arrangements The Alumni Ambassador scheme is a voluntary scheme, and only reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be paid. These should be agreed with the Alumni and Development team prior to working. September 2010 Termination of Contract Alumni Ambassadors will not be subject to a contract at UCS. However, any Alumni Ambassadors wishing to remove themselves from the pool should contact the Alumni and Development team. All Alumni Ambassadors will be required to sign a ‘Code of Conduct’. Breaking this code of conduct will result in removal from the Alumni Ambassador scheme. Selection Criteria Alumni Ambassadors will require the following attributes. For some tasks/roles, Ambassadors will be required to have specific skills or previous experience.
