The Bachelor of Business Management / Bachelor of Education (Secondary) program is a four year preservice teacher qualification that develops specialist teachers across the year levels 8 – 12 (secondary schooling phase). It is your responsibility to ensure that you complete the requirements for each section of your program, in order to graduate with both degrees. The following information is designed to help you plan your enrolment to meet this goal. You are not required to submit this program plan for approval. However, if you have any concerns about meeting degree requirements, especially the year prior to your Professional Year, please contact the relevant Faculty for advice. For advice on the BBusMan section of your degree, including advice on majors and courses, please contact the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. For advice on the BEd (Sec) section of your degree, including information on teaching area requirements, please contact the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or the School of Education. PROGRAM GUIDELINES The Bachelor of Business Management / Bachelor of Education (Secondary) dual program consists of two parts. The Bachelor of Business Management provides the content knowledge for two curriculum areas offered in schools, whilst the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) provides the skills, knowledge and practical experience required for teaching. The core courses of the Bachelor of Business Management prepare students for teaching areas in Business (junior high school) and Business Organisation Management – BOM (senior high school). BBusMan/BEd students must choose the BBusMan Group 2 Major Business Economics to meet the prerequisites of a second teaching area – Economics (senior high school). Please note: if you are admitted into this dual degree program mid-year or obtain partial credit you will need to ensure that you structure your program so that you are able to enter the final year of Bachelor of Education component in semester one – the final year of the BEd (Sec) program is a year-long professional year commencing in semester 1 only. You must complete a total of #68 for the program. Bachelor of Business Management Section Requirements: #36 from the BBusMan List including #24 of compulsory courses from Group 1; and #12 from one major in Group 2 (#6 must be at level 3); OR #12 of elective courses from Group 3 (#6 must be at level 3, and only #2 may be at level 1). Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Requirements: #32 in total from the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) list which includes: #16 units for Part A compulsory; #16 in accordance with Part B Part A teaches issues pertinent to teaching and schooling and is completed in conjunction with the requirements of the BA degree. Part B (Professional Year) develops professional expertise required for teaching. The Professional (final) Year of the program must be taken fulltime and can only be commenced when BBusMan and BEd Part A requirements have been met.
