The Careers Centre mission and objectives is to increase opportunities for organisations to benefit from graduate and student skills. The Careers Centre provides careers information, advice and guidance to students and graduates and alumni. Providing work experience, placements, mentoring opportunities, full time graduate and part time student employment, volunteering, engaging and network with employers and the wide variety of opportunity providers in North East Wales. JOB PURPOSE As an integral member of the Careers Team providing careers guidance, education, information and advice. The Graduate Support and Destinations Coordinator will be working within the Careers Service taking a lead on finalist and graduate support activity leading to successful outcomes for the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey. Supporting and keeping in touch with recent graduates and alumni is a vital element of this role. DIMENSIONS Reports to the Head of Careers and Student Services has responsibility for dealing with students, graduates, academic staff, employers and external agencies. A. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES A1. Leading the ‘keeping in touch’ process through contacting finalists and graduates. Ensuring finalists and graduates are kept informed of the employability support available to them, providing information and support about graduate opportunities and referring them to appropriate members of the Careers and Zone team. Working as part of the first point of contact team in Careers and on the Service Information Desk. A2. Developing and organising student and graduate employer events including University graduate support days, bringing employers and organisations into the University, organising trips to the major Graduate Recruitment fairs, identifying and promoting graduate internships, work placements and national graduate employment schemes A3. Supporting Careers colleagues in networking with local opportunity providers such as employers (SME’s), voluntary and charities, local authorities and community organisations in the development of employment, internships and placements for Glyndwr Graduates. A4. Co-ordinate and manage the annual Destinations Survey by liaison with HESA ensuring that all relevant codes, data, deadlines and instructions have been downloaded/received and disseminated. Liaison with Student Programmes Office to ensure all data collection systems are appropriate and that all data is correct. Ensuring adequate stocks of resources, sending out mailings, cross checking against target lists, telephone follow up of non-respondents and accurate data input. Develop and produce accurate data reports for dissemination. Attend HESA training events. A5. Supervise and train the DHLE Assistant who will be supporting the organisation, collection and input of data. Oversee the recruitment of Student callers. Devise and deliver training programs to ensure the correct data is captured whilst customer service and quality standards are maintained. A6. Working with the Alumni and Fundraising Officer to assist in effective communications with finalists and recent graduates, highlighting the benefits offered to Alumni and supporting the development and identification of Alumni Ambassadors. A7. Assist in the evaluation and monitoring of services, for example by preparing statistics and gathering data on behalf of the Head of Careers and Student Services. A8. Contribute to other Careers Centre projects and strategy concerning careers and employability issues, developing effective communication mechanisms with staff, students and graduates of the organization, and developing plans for future delivery of services. A9. Contribute to the achievement of relevant quality standards for the Careers Centre and Glyndwr University. A.10. Undertake other general duties in order to contribute to the overall management and smooth operation of the Careers Centre. B PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES B1 Act in a professional manner at all times and maintain confidentiality of information. B2. Maintain an appropriate awareness of and work effectively within the policies and procedures of the Institute participating in appropriate processes, e.g. Appraisal, Continuing Professional Development, etc. B3. Act in support of the Institutes Health, Safety and Environmental Policy by working safely and following the procedures and codes of practice derived to protect all staff. Experience of a HE environment, or within a Careers or employment related service, would be an advantage. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Person Specification Graduate support and Destinations Co-ordinator Essential Qualifications Graduate level or equivalent and/or extensive experience of Graduate Support and DHLE collection over a number of years. Experience Practical experience of working in a HE learning environment supporting students and graduates into work experience/mentoring/volunteering opportunities and further study Experience of supervising staff particularly in a customer focussed setting. Desirable Stage assessed 1 1&2 √ 1&2 √ 1 Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and have the capacity to innovate and to work flexibly and co-operatively to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and staff in Academic Schools and Operational departments. 1&2 Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of organisations √ 2 Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and empathy towards the characteristics and needs of Glyndwr University students and graduates 2 √ 2 Experienced in IT skills in particular data bases and Excel spreadsheets and experience of a range of information and enabling technology packages. Knowledge of SITS would be a distinct advantage.
