JOB SPECIFICATION
1.
Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisation's goals (its
expected outcome and how it is achieved).
The Registered General Nurse in the Radiology Department provides direct comprehensive nursing care
and education to patients undergoing radiological procedures. As first level practitioner, the Registered
Nurse consults with other experienced staff when nursing care requires expertise beyond own abilities
and / or qualifications. As a member of the team the Registered Nurse achieves and maintains the
competencies needed to provide patient care and services within the Radiology Department.

Professionally accountable to the Executive Director, Nursing Patient Care & Support Services
through the Nursing Co Director and the Clinical Nurse Manager for the standard of care provided.
Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager and / or the Clinical Nurse.

Although initially based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the incumbent may be required to work
in any sites of the Central Northern Adelaide Health Service.
You may be required to undergo a criminal history check.
Must be prepared to attend relevant meetings and staff development / education activities as required.
Performance review to be conducted initially after three months of appointment to the position then
annually.
Regular participation in the on-call roster will be required.
Some out of hours work may be required.
Statement of Key Responsibilities/Duties
Ensure the effective and efficient provision of direct and comprehensive nursing care, management
and education to a select group of or their carers/family or support persons undergoing procedures
in the Imaging Department by:
 Providing direct and comprehensive nursing care, education and management to assigned patients
undergoing procedures in the imaging department by utilising the nursing process in care delivery.
 Meeting the educational and counselling needs of patients, their families or significant others.
 Communicating and documenting patient care requirements to relevant medical or nursing staff and
other health professionals.
 Ensuring that the nursing care provided meets the required standard and that it is delivered in
accordance with the policies and procedures of the Unit, Nursing Division and the Hospital.
 Ensuring the maintenance of patients’ rights, confidentiality, safety, comfort and dignity.
 Using professional competence and judgement to recognise the appropriateness of orders and
seeking confirmation/clarification when required.
 Being familiar with the facilities available in the community and ensuring that the necessary
referral mechanisms are used to arrange the ongoing care required by patients post discharge
 Acting as a patient advocate in nursing matters to assist individuals make informed decisions.
 Maintaining professional knowledge by reference to relevant literature and participation in staff
development programs.
 Accepting accountability for the standard of nursing care provided.
 Providing support, preceptorship and orientation to other/new nursing staff and acting as a
preceptor to less experienced staff participating in the Graduate Nurse Program.
 Participating in activities associated with the care, maintenance and supervision of specialised
equipment to ensure that all equipment is safe and functional.
 Participating in policy and procedure development within the unit.
 Having competencies in Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, Intravenous Cannulation and
drug administration formally assessed on an annual basis.
 Using effective and caring interpersonal relationship and communication skills in all interactions
with patients and their families as well as other staff.
 Maintaining safe custody of controlled substances.
 Performing duties as delegated by the Clinical Nurse and / or Clinical Nurse Manager.
