Drama Scholarship Information When can I apply? Kent College offers Drama Scholarships to students at ages 11, 14 and 16 corresponding with entry to Years 7, 9 and Sixth Form. What is expected of me? We are looking for dramatic students! We want students who have a passion for Drama and Theatre, even if your skills are not yet fully developed What will I be asked to do at the audition? We will ask you to perform two monologues, which will be sent to you once you have registered for the Drama Scholarship. The pieces will demonstrate a contrast in characters or theatre styles, and each should last between 1 and 2 minutes. One will be a Shakespeare monologue and the other a Contemporary piece. Additionally, you will have a brief, informal interview with the Head of Drama where you can talk about what you have just presented and tell us about your dramatic interests and experience. You should allow around 30 minutes for the entire process. What standards are expected? We need to see that you have some previous experience in Drama. Perhaps you have followed a drama course in school or in special drama workshops outside school, such as Drama Clubs. You will probably have taken part in a staged production. Remember we are looking for students who are excited by Drama, who have a passion for performing as part of a team, who want to learn more, and who can demonstrate the required level of dedication. What is a Drama Scholarship at Kent College worth? The exact amount of the scholarship is determined by the Head Master in consultation with the Head of Drama and can be anything from 10% to 50% of the school fees What do I have to do to earn my scholarship when I attend Kent College? We expect you to be a leader for Drama. Apart from attending regular drama classes, you will be expected to join our after-school Youth Theatre and play a major part in helping to organise as well as performing in school productions. Older scholars will also be encouraged to assist in the running of drama workshops with younger pupils. But most important of all we need our Drama Scholars to show their enthusiasm and excitement in Drama to the rest of the school. Are there any bonuses to being a Drama Scholar at Kent College?
