2. Relationship to mission and strategic plan of institution, and/or college and department
goals and objectives:
The purpose of this change is to maintain consistency with the name of the major.
As part of the College of Business and Economics mission statement “Development and support of faculty,
2
significant student-teacher interaction, a varied and relevant curriculum, experiential learning, and high academic
standards.” By modifying our curriculum we will ensure our students get an accurate and relevant curriculum.
3. Rationale:
Through our input from our industry advisory board it was recommended to focus our program more on
supply chain management. Our major will be called Supply Chain and Operations Management. This reflects the
changes in industry. Correspondingly, our emphasis will be called Supply Chain and Operations Management with
an Emphasis in Project Management. The inclusion of MANAGEMENT 462 Purchasing Management reflects this greater
focus on supply chain issues.
Also, we are adding Management 471 to a list of electives for the sub-major. This change will make our
emphasis electives consistent with our Supply Chain and Operations Management Major electives. Management 471
is a quantitative course focusing on mathematical modeling and optimization providing analytical skills in analyzing
supply chains. This change satisfies the goals and objectives of UW-W on several levels. The mission statement of
CBE is to provide quality education to career-oriented students who will be competitive in a technologically
evolving, global business environment.
4.
Cost Implications: All costs are administrative in nature and do not involve additional faculty or other
dedicated resources. Specifically, the changes in the program would increase the class size in Management 471
and 462 while reducing some of the class sizes in other courses we teach in our area.
