AHRC-FUNDED THREE YEAR PHD STUDENTSHIP IN CELTIC STUDIES/WELSH
Applications are invited by the Graduate School of Arts, Education and Humanities at
Bangor University for an AHRC PhD Studentship in Welsh/Celtic Studies beginning
on 1st October 2011. Within the broad discipline of Celtic Studies, Bangor is a
recognised centre of excellence for the study of Welsh, and research proposals may
concentrate on any area of Welsh literature from the medieval period to the present.
Applications for this award may also be comparative in nature, linking the above
subject area with related academic disciplines and fields of study such as Welsh History,
Religion, Archaeology, Music, English literature, Welsh Writing in English, Arthurian
Studies, European Languages, Cultural Studies and Political Theory and Ideology, for

Eligibility
Applicants should hold a distinguished academic record, which will include a Bachelor
Degree (or equivalent) and preferably will also include the award of, or current study
for, a Masters degree or relevant professional experience. Applicants must be able to
demonstrate the aptitude to complete successfully a PhD by research within the period
of the award. Full-time Doctoral students who qualify for the full AHRC studentship
will have their tuition fees paid for and will receive a stipend of £13,590 p.a. AHRC
awards are open to UK and to EU applicants. Please be aware that EU applicants may

Application Procedure
The application deadline is 5pm on Friday 1st July 2011 and interviews will be held
later in July or early August. Applicants *must* apply using the University's
Postgraduate On-Line Application Form available here.
