Introduction
This guide is provided to give students information about opportunities to continue their
educations. Students are urged to examine requirements and apply for all scholarships and
grants for which they are eligible as well as other forms of financial aid as necessary.
Mexico Senior High School students are fortunate to have such very generous community
support in scholarships and to be graduates of an A+ School.
It is the responsibility of the student to meet deadlines in applying for scholarships, grants and
loans.
Students are encouraged to acknowledge scholarships received with a personal thank you to the
sponsor of the award.

All applications are available for download from the Mexico Public Schools Website:

Guidance Department
Computers and typewriters are available in the Library and Guidance Office. Students are
encouraged to remember that neatness and completeness are important while completing
applications. Photocopying is not available through the Guidance Office.
1) Pick up 7th semester transcript from Guidance Office.
2) Download and complete desired scholarship applications.
3) Make appropriate number of copies of transcript and/or standard application.
4) Complete Scholarship Cover Sheet (can be downloaded from web site or
picked up in Guidance Office).
5) Turn in Scholarship Cover Sheet and scholarship applications with transcripts
attached to the Guidance Office.

The Average Joe Scholarship
It is our goal to encourage a deserving student, an Average Joe, to attend college and enrich his or her life by associating with other students from different
ethnic, religious, or cultural backgrounds. Participation in high school activities and class standing are not important criteria for this scholarship.
Intelligence and the ability to express in written word will determine the recipient.

Heather Brandow Memorial Scholarship
The Heather Brandow Memorial Scholarship was established in her memory by her family and friends. Heather graduated from Mexico High School with
the Class of 2003, where she was very active as a member of Dixie Grays, Dixie Gray Dancers, French Club, Key Club, Mascot Sstaff, PTSA, Speech and
Theater Club, Student Council and Cheerleading. During her senior year she was Homecoming Queen, Prom Queen, and crowned Daisy Mae at the Sadie
Hawkins dance. Upon graduating she moved to St. Louis and was planning on receiving her degree in Business Management in 2007, the year this

Ralph Raymond Roth was a native Audrain County farmer who lived northeast of Mexico. He was a bachelor and he farmed a 580-acre farm north of
Worchester. He died in December 2006 at the age of 91. Although he never attended high school, he valued education and on his death created a

A+ SCHOOL PROGRAM
Because Mexico Senior High School is a designated A+ School, students who have an agreement on file and achieve the
criteria listed below may be eligible for tuition and common fees (*pending legislative funding) at a Missouri public
community college or technical school for up to four semesters:

2.5 cumulative GPA, 95% attendance throughout high school, 50 hours of tutoring, Good citizenship including
avoiding the unlawful use of drugs
Additional requirements include attending a designated A+ School for three years prior to graduation, making a documented
good faith effort to secure all available federal post-secondary financial assistance that does not require repayment (FAFSA),
and registering for Selective Service, if applicable.
To Access A+ Schools Funding:
1.
Complete A+ School requirements including 2.5 GPA, 95% attendance, 50 hours of tutoring, and demonstration of
good citizenship (3 teacher recommendations will be required in May to satisfy this requirement).
2.
Apply for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov Regardless of parental income, A+ students MUST
apply. State law requires that all federal aid for which the student is eligible be expended before the state funds will
be applied. A+ Schools requests that MHS attempt to verify FAFSA completion BEFORE certifying student
for A+. Students must also register for the Selective Service www.sss.gov if applicable.
3.
Apply for admission to the public community college or technical school of your choice. A list of eligible schools is
available in the Guidance Office.
4.
Request an official FINAL high school transcript (after graduation) with A+ Schools seal.
5.
When enrolling for classes, be sure to tell your advisor you have A+ status.
Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA at the post-secondary level in order to keep A+ Schools status. If a student’s GPA falls
below 2.5 he/she will be responsible for the costs of the next semester. If a student regains a 2.5 GPA, A+ Schools funds will
be reinstated for the following semester.

college. MDHE administers state grant programs, scholarship programs and is the state-designated guaranty agency for the
