“It is my impression that music is the most precious resource of New Orleans. I have
never experienced anything like it,” said Robin Parry, Creator and Organizer of PHILLY
TO NEW ORLEANS. “This idea came about because I believe that the best people in
the world to rebuild New Orleans are musicians and artists from all around the country. If
this goes well it is my hope that the plan will spread to other great cities around the
country. I think we just may be able to start something that will actually make a
difference in the world.”

Until the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, most people only knew of New Orleans as the
home of Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday. However, the City of New Orleans is of vital
importance to all of America, because of its inhabitants’ histories, culture, literature, food
and, most of all, musical heritage. New Orleans is the Cradle of American music. The
PHILLY TO NEW ORLEANS program, along with the generosity of the music
community in Philadelphia, World Café Live! and WXPN, will, educate people about
New Orleans, promote volunteerism and tourism, raise money to send Philadelphia-area
musicians and music lovers to New Orleans to help build homes for displaced musicians
and to become a part of the rebirthing of New Orleans!. PHILLY TO NEW ORLEANS
will also bring in great music from New Orleans to creatively keep them working and to
also use their talent as Crescent City tourism promotion. Musicians helping
musicians…for arts sake.
