Philadelphia-Area Musicians, WXPN And World Cafe Live Band Together To Launch “Philly To New Orleans” FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Programs at World Cafe Live help send Philadelphia musicians and music lovers to New Orleans to help build homes for displaced musicians and bring them back home. Philadelphia, PA – July 31, 2006 – PHILLY TO NEW ORLEANS, a newly created ongoing program of charity and volunteerism to aid in the restoration of New Orleans and its music community, announces its first two monthly events taking place at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut Street, Philadelphia – “Big Easy Sundays” beginning August 13th and “Hands On New Orleans” beginning August 17th. Both monthly music events raise money to help send local artist and members of the music community to help reestablish New Orleans musicians displaced by hurricane Katrina. August, 13 2006 - 6:00 PM – “BIG EASY SUNDAYS” @ WORLD CAFE LIVE (( event listing )) HOSTED BY WXPN’S MICHAELA MAJOUN Big Easy Sunday will premier August 13 at World Cafe Live with a PHILLY TO NEW ORLEANS kick off party. (www.worldcafelive.com) The event is intended to be a full on celebration of New Orleans, from brass bands to Po-Boys. The menu will be authentic Cajun specialties. Expect lots of Hurricanes and Abita Restoration Ale specials at the bar. (Abita donates $1 per 6PK sold) The party will kick off with WCL Beta Hi-FI winners The Anthony Lattanze Band funkin' it up and won’t let up before Mardi Gras hits the streets of Philadelphia and the UCC Royal Brass Band comes marching in. Expect some special guest performance and meet the first team of volunteers! Starting September each month one of our finest local bands will play host to an outstanding New Orleans act. In true “hands on” benefit style, all ticket sales will go to the NOLA band. 6PM - FREE (DONATIONS ACCEPTED) August, 17 2006 - 7:00 PM – “HANDS ON NEW ORLEANS” @ WORLD CAFE LIVE (( event listing )) These events will bill all genres of popular local music from “Folk to New Orleans” to “Goth to New Orleans” showing support from all areas of our thriving community “Hands on New Orleans” will feature local bands playing together to raise money to send a monthly team of volunteers to help New Orleans musicians rebuild their houses and their lives. Our teams will be working with the Hands on Network and families will be coordinated by the Tipitina’s Foundation in New Orleans. August 17 benefit features 4 winners of the WCL Philly rising open mic series and 3 of the bands will be among the first team of volunteers. If this goes well it is my hope that the plan will spread to other great cities around the country.
