Associate Dean College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Job Description I. Title: Associate Dean II. Division: College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Location: 228 Deering Ave., Portland Campus/51 College Ave., Gorham Campus, Work Schedule: Eleven (11) month fiscal year appointment with stipend for associate dean duties. Work year is September through July. Teaching expectation of two courses per year. III. Organizational Relationships: a. Reports to: Dean of the College b. Coordinates with: Chairpersons, director of external programs, director of student services, directors of research units, directors of outreach units, student success centers, admissions, advancement, marketing, registrar, business office, and other appropriate academic and administrative personnel. IV. Statement of the Job: a. The Associate Dean aids the Dean in carrying out the academic and administrative functions of the College. S/he works closely with directors, chairpersons, faculty, staff, and students in the development, coordination, and delivery of quality programs and services through planning, decision making, and reporting. S/he also represents the Dean in her absence in all aspects of academic and administrative matters. V. Essential Functions: The following functions will be shared with the other Associate Dean given candidate’s expertise and interest: a. Responsible for strategic planning, goal setting, and monitoring goal achievements for academic units in the College. b. Responsible for preparing and disseminating to the College data (enrollments, admissions, retention rates, graduates, etc.) reports as they relate to academic units. c. Provides professional development activities and opportunities for faculty and staff such as seminars, workshops, discussion groups. d. Responsible for monitoring and reporting faculty loads/assignments, including part-time instruction, overload teaching, and reassigned time. Compiles and keeps data on faculty loads/assignments. e. Responsible for oversight and coordination of course schedules. f. Responsible for administrative oversight of academic budgets, including part-time and overload teaching. g. Assists Dean in overall strategic planning, goal setting, budget planning, and personnel actions. h. Promotes and coordinates interdisciplinary and cross college courses and programs, including teacher education. i. Responsible for coordinating the College’s enrollment management, admissions, recruitment, and retention., including liaison with the university enrollment management and student success units. Coordinates with student services within the College on issues of enrollment management. j. Coordinates college, alumni, and student events. k. Coordinates and monitors accreditations and program reviews for units within the College. l. Maintains articulation agreements with community colleges m. Promotes and coordinates research activities within the College, including identifying, disseminating, and coordinating research opportunities and providing related professional development activities. n. Chairs College Advisory Board. VI. Marginal Functions: a. Conducts special projects/tasks as assigned by the Dean. b. Assists administrative staff in resolving conflicts. c. Assists academic programs in resolving load and scheduling conflicts. VII. Budget Responsibilities: a. Oversees budgets as assigned by the Dean. b. Constructs and provides oversight of part-time/overload budget. c. Oversees scholarship budgets as assigned by the Dean. VIII. Public and Professional Activities Related to Job Performance: a. Participates in professional workshops and conferences as appropriate. b. Represents the College at meetings, conferences, and other public events or media functions as directed by the Dean. IX. Knowledge, Skill, and Educational Requirements: a. Required: i. Terminal degree in field of expertise and tenured faculty in CAHS ii. Oral and written communication skills iii. Ability to organize, manage, and work independently iv. Knowledge of academic processes v. Knowledge of scheduling processes vi. Skill in budgeting and financial administration b. Preferred: i. Administrative experience within a university system ii. An academic or professional background common to one of the disciplines offered in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. X. Other: Job Classification: Non-Represented Faculty (more than 50% administrative duties. Expectation of teaching two courses per year)
