Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Services
The Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Services provides transformational leadership and guidance in relation to students and participates in decision making with regard to student issues in the School of Nursing.
The Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Services works with the Dean, the leadership of the School of
Nursing, the Health Science Center, and with students services within the Health Science Center. The Associate
Dean for Students has the responsibility and authority for coordinating, facilitating and supporting academic and no-academic needs of prospective applicants and enrolled graduate and undergraduate students. The Associate
Dean for Admissions and Student Services works with all student services within the Health Science Center and within the community to include coordinating the publication of student related materials, developing student policies and facilitating the activities of student organizations. The emphasis is on creating a great student experience with high touch services that can be a model for the nation while graduating a high percentage of students qualified to become nurses of the highest quality.
The Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Services reports to the Dean.
Position Characteristics
1. Point person and leadership role for recruitment, admission, financial aid and academic transcript evaluation of qualified applicants.
2. Works closely with members of the Committee on Undergraduate Studies, Committee on Graduate
Studies, and lead administrator for the Committee on Faculty and Student Matters.
3. Responsible for identifying, hiring and training of 30 tutors. The coordination of tutorial programs addressing the academic needs of 100 students is a critical part of this job.
4. Supports and represents students: Facilitates academic and non-academic needs of students; is responsible for coordination and administration of student services.
5. Promotes services by students to the profession, community, School and the Health Science Center.
6. Provides Leadership: generates a vision and sense of direction in relation to recruitment, admission, enrollment, and student services; maintains a collegial environment that encourages sensitivity and high performance of staff, students and faculty; supports student development.
7. Plans and Organizes: devises ways and means of accomplishing goals of the Office of Admissions and
Student Services; seeks opportunities for interface with HSC student services and resources; coordinates the publication of recruitment materials for the School; monitors and manages graduation and other student recognition events, scholarships, and recruitment efforts.
8. Guides and Coordinates: seeks and uses input from faculty, staff, and students; delegates authority effectively; makes timely decisions regarding student services.
9. Share with the appropriate administrative units, the responsibility for setting and meeting enrollment goals.
10. Manages: uses authority judiciously; manages office resources effectively; hires, directs and evaluates staff to provide services to students and faculty.
11. Fosters academic environment conducive to nurturing students while learning.

12. Communicates Effectively: keeps administration, faculty, staff, and students informed; manages conflict, strives for consensus.
13. Assists Faculty: guides and supports faculty in working with disabled students or disadvantaged students particularly in handling non-academic problems of students; interprets and applies ADA guidelines.
14. Ensure compliance with University, State, Federal and other outside agency rules and regulations.
15. Represents the School: effectively maintains liaison with external agencies and constituent groups for recrui tment purposes; represents the School’s interest within UTHSCSA.
16. Serve as a consultant to faculty and staff on issues of student persistence, adjustments and service satisfaction.
17. Work closely with the Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs as it relates to meeting enrollment goals
18. Develop and submit reports in a timely manner. The report may include forecasts for enrolment targets.
19. Create a collegial relationship with colleges and universities in Texas and the United States.
20. Serves as school Li aison to the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator’s Office.
Functions
Supports and advises students with academic and non-academic needs.
Serves as liaison with student support services in the Health Science Center, i.e., Financial Aid, Student
Health, and Counseling.
In collaboration with Associate Dean and Program Directors develops and coordinates publication of catalog m Viewbook, brochures, and Student Guide.
Responsible for student recruitment activities for all programs.
Manages the recruitment budget.
Serves as liaison for student organizations.
Collects and disseminates information regarding student scholarships.
Writes references for students for scholarships and jobs.
Compiles reports for the Dean as needed.
Articulates the programs of the School of Nursing to the community at large.
Seeks outside funding for students.
Collaborates with other administrators, faculty and staff in promoting the mission of the School of Nursing and the Health Science Center.
Assists in the planning process for the School in relation to student non-academic needs.
Plans in collaboration with Academic Affairs the Academic Calendar for the School of Nursing in coordination with the Health Science Center Curriculum Coordinator.
Participates in professional, School of Nursing, University and community activities.

Establishes interdisciplinary relationships and activities within the HSC and community.
Coordinates student orientation, scholarship reception, doctoral reception, family orientation and graduation for graduate and undergraduate programs.
With the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs assumes responsibility for the Grade Appeal Process and cases that involve academic dishonesty.
Coordinates special needs or “reasonable accommodations” for students with disabilities.
Description
Minimum preparation: PhD
Experienced in program administration
Experience with student development theory
Member of the Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers
Member of National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP)
10 years of experience in Enrollment Management (A graduate of the Enrollment Management Institute).
Experienced in student affairs
100 percent administration
