LIMITED-ENROLLMENT COURSES
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SELECTING LIMITED-ENROLLMENT
COURSES AVOID W GRADES ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT!
See procedures below for selecting limited-enrollment courses. Please be advised that if
you are not assigned a guaranteed seat after registering for a limited-enrollment
course, then it will be solely your responsibility to complete a website transaction to
remove the course from your Fall 2012 schedule. If you fail to do so before the close of
the two-week Drop Period at the beginning of the semester, then the course will remain
on your transcript with a W grade, if you subsequently drop it.
Each course listed on the Limited Enrollment Chart or designated as a limited enrollment
course on the alpha schedule has an enrollment cap for Fall Term 2012. During the
registration period, however, there will be no block on enrollment. If more students elect
a particular course than there are spaces available, seats will subsequently be assigned by
a specialized computer application, first, to all senior students and then to underclass
students. Click on this link http://camlaw.rutgers.edu/students/schedules/howtoseats.html if you wish to review the rules which are applied in assigning seats in limitedenrollment courses.
On or about June 1, 2012, we will circulate those courses that are oversubscribed.
In this email, we will describe a procedure by which you can indicate your
preferences as to oversubscribed courses. 3L students will be able to indicate a
preference for 2 courses, and 2L students will be able to indicate a preference for 1
course. By indicating this preference, your name will be weighted more heavily in
the limited enrollment lottery for that course. This does not guarantee you a seat.
Moreover, other LE rules (such as that 3Ls have priority over 2Ls) still apply.
SPECIAL NOTICE: Assignment to limited-enrollment (LE) courses is based upon both
your proximity to graduation and whether you are in full-time or part-time status. The
computer application which handles this process checks your graduation and FT/PT
status based upon information in the Rutgers Student Records Database (SRDB). In the
past, a small number of students have been adversely treated in the assignment process,
because the registration database information did not correctly reflect their current status.
To remedy this problem, it is now possible for students to check their current status as
reflected in the SRDB. At the law school=s Home Page, select Student Login and then
click on Show Your Current Schedule/Status under Student Services. The line which
reads Spring 2012 Status is followed by two numbers. The first is your graduation year
and the second indicates whether you are a full-time student (601) or a part-time student
(602). If you believe either of these numbers is wrong, you should contact Assistant Dean
Ed Rentezelas, who will work with you to verify and correct your status codes. We
expect to run the computer application for seat assignments to LE courses in early June
after the registration period closes. Your codes must be correct by May 25th for you to
be treated properly in the process.
Waiting Lists for Over-subscribed Limited Enrollment Courses. Where appropriate,
waiting lists will be established for over-subscribed courses, but all add transactions in
such courses will be blocked at the close of the registration period, May 25, 2012. Any
seats which may become available will be assigned by the instructor at the first class
meeting of the Fall 2012 semester in accordance with Waiting List rankings. If you do
receive a seat assignment at the first class session, you will need to ask the instructor to
sign a Course Admission Form which you should then present to Assistant Dean Ed
Rentezelas in Room E318, who will complete the registration for you. Forms are also
available on-line, they can be found each semester at the link for LE RESULTS.
First Day Attendance in Oversubscribed Courses. If you receive a guaranteed seat in an
oversubscribed course, you must attend the first day of class or notify the professor in
advance if you will be absent. Failure to do so will result in your being administratively
dropped from the course and another student being given your seat.
Special Permission Numbers
The law school no longer uses Special Permission Numbers. If in trying to register
electronically you nonetheless receive a message that registration is blocked and asking
you to obtain a special permission number, please send an email to Assistant Dean Ed
Rentezelas, ed.rentezelas@camden.rutgers.edu describing the problem and he will assist
you if possible.
Refer to the Alpha course listing for Limited Enrollment cap numbers.
