Title: Division: Location: Schedule: Coordinator of Career Services and Employer Development Student Success 100 Payson Smith, Portland Campus with frequent rotation to other campuses Monday through Friday, 8-4:30 p.m.; evening and weekend work as required for fulfillment of duties Organizational Relationships: Reports to: Executive Director for Student Success Supervision: Supervises 1-2 professional employees; 1-2 classified staff; Student Workers/Graduate Students: VARIES Coordinates with: Works closely with members of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Provost's Staff including Deans, Academic Departments and Graduate Admissions. Works closely with members of University Advancement and Alumni Affairs, Human Resources personnel, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Facilities Management, Dining Services, and maintains liaison with all levels of faculty, professional, and classified staff at USM. Maintains relationships with regional employers and recognized professional organizations in the field. II. Statement Of The Job: As a critical member of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, the coordinator provides leadership and coordination for USM’s emerging employer recruitment and student career development and placement services. The coordinator has primary responsibility for the administration, organization and direction of the programs and services. Responsible for initiating programs and services that maximize collaboration between and among the departments within the Division and other academic and administrative units of USM. In addition, the coordinator, in collaboration with members of the Student Success Centers, Student and University Life Division, and Undergraduate Admission, is responsible for coordinating the USM Job Fair and Career Expo programming and implementation. The person in this position also co-coordinates the Academic and Career Success course. III. Essential Functions: A. Provide leadership and administrative oversight for USM’s clearinghouse (eRecruiting) for employer recruiting and placement. B. Responsible for employer development including the coordination of the recruitment program and publicity efforts. C. Creating and maintaining a campus-wide collaborative resume critique service. D. Provide individual counseling and group activities on self-assessment, values exploration, major selection, career exploration and job search strategies, as well as providing developmental career advising to pre-majors and major changers. E. Develop and participate in the implementation of a mock interview program for students. F. Create and lead a MBTI and Strong campus facilitator network that provides the capacity necessary to meet the needs of the institution. G. Manage the CCP account for the purchase and administration of the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory. H. Coordination and management of the annual Job Fair and related activities. I. Assist students with job search process. J. Provide advice on resume-writing, interviewing, networking techniques, and effective use of social media. K. Oversee and monitor the development and retention of relationships with employers for the purposes of job placement of graduates. L. Oversee and monitor the development of job orders from employers, the presentation of graduates' resumes, scheduling of interviews, and follow-up with employers and graduates; all resulting in successful placement of graduates. M. Manage and monitor the services and resources provided to students and graduates to assist in their job search. N. Assist currently enrolled students in finding part-time employment through job boards and individual service as needed. O. Build community involvement at the campus level: attend outside job fairs, invite employers and alumni to speak in classrooms, arrange on-campus interviews and organize job fairs when applicable. P. Maintain accurate graduate and alumni placement data. Q. Attend all new student orientations and graduate commencement ceremonies. R. Deliver presentations to new and continuing students, graduates and alumni focused on career development and the needs and interest of students and academic departments. S. Generate program interest with city associations and local employers. T. Develop and administer an assessment plan to ensure that programs and services meet or exceed current job market and the needs of both students and employers. U. Responsible for strategic planning, goal setting, and monitoring goal achievement. V. Responsible for the development of and timely completion and submission of annual reports and other information needed by the institution. IV. Marginal Functions: A. Participate in Corporate Partners and other career networking activities. B. Participate in departmental/divisional activities and events as appropriate and required. C. Serve on campus committees. V. Supervisory Responsibilities: Primary supervisory responsibility for student workers and graduate assistants. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting performance evaluations, approving time, coordinating schedules and work assignments, providing orientation and support. VI. Budget Responsibilities: Responsible for development and management of the E&G budget pertaining to his/her area of responsibility. Included in these duties are the following: A. Approving and monitoring monthly charges or various expenditures and revenue. B. Monitoring student employee earnings. C. Development of long range financial plans for areas of responsibility. VII. Public And Professional Activities: A. Membership in professional organizations related to career advising and development. B. Serve on task forces and committees at USM as appropriate. Maintain membership and active involvement in state, regional, and national organizations related to the activities of the Division. IV. Internal/External Contacts: Internal (USM) Contacts: Works closely with all academic and administrative departments at USM. External Contacts: Maintains relationships with employers, alumni, and other local, regional, and national organizations related to career activities. VIII. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: A. Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of career development, job search strategies, job market trends, employer relations, contemporary recruitment methodologies, and trends in career services. B. Excellent listening, communication, counseling, advising, and presentation skills. C. Ability to administer and interpret career assessments (MBTI, Strong and StrengthsQuest). D. Strong written and oral communication skills, included demonstrated ability to make effective oral presentations, facilitate an open exchange of ideas, and write clear and concise reports. E. Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to make connections and work creatively and effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers F. Capacity to work effectively with persons from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds to promote an inclusive campus and community culture. G. Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate discipline or field of study. 3-5 years of experience in higher education with a track record of progressive leadership experience focused on promoting career development and facilitating relationships to promote the career preparation and success of students. Strong management and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, professional and classified staff members. Experience in direct service to students in an academic or student affairs capacity. Previous experience with establishing and assessing student learning goals and objectives is highly desirable. Background investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment. Preferred: Experience in career development and employer development with higher education. Experience in teaching and curriculum development/design at the post-secondary level.
