JOB DESCRIPTION
A.
Position Summary
The Dean of Student Affairs plans, implements, and administers a comprehensive
program of student services including responsibility for admissions and records,
financial aid, counseling, assessment, placement and follow-up, athletics,
recruiting residential life, judicial affairs, orientation, and student activities.
B.
Organizational Reporting
The Dean of Student Affairs is directly responsible to the President.
C.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
As a minimum, the essential functions of the Dean of Student Affairs are:

to plan, organize, administer and provide leadership for a comprehensive
program of student affairs;
to coordinate a student orientation program;
to review and implement standards of student conduct;
to submit recommendations for, and to oversee budgets for all student
affairs departments;
to review and take appropriate action regarding student grievances and
student disciplinary actions;
to participate in appropriate state, regional and national activities and
organizations;
to prepare and submit appropriate reports required by the President and
other state, regional, and federal regulatory agencies;
to administer and review a system of evaluation for student affairs
personnel;
to promote participation in professional development opportunities for
student affairs personnel;
to review the College catalog and ensure that all information pertaining
to student affairs is up-dated annually;
to assist the dean of instruction and division chairs in the administration
of the faculty/staff advising system by disseminating all pertinent transfer
information to advisors, up-dating the advising manual and providing
advisor training as needed;
to coordinate the College’s residence life program;
to schedule and conduct regular division meetings;
to coordinate the development, distribution and analysis of student affairs

functions and services and to formulate changes in policies or services as
needed;
to schedule and conduct regular athletic division meetings;
to review and up-date the student athletic handbook annually;
to interpret the mission and philosophy of the College as it relates to the
Students Affairs Division to all personnel;
to review and approve leave requests of division members to ensure that
essential functions of the College will be maintained and that compliance
with policies of the College and the State Board of Education is adhered
to;
to evaluate the instruction of the class, Orientation to College, annually;
to ensure appropriate oversight of the intercollegiate athletic program to
include compliance with NJCAA regulations;
to oversee the College’s retention efforts;
to coordinate transfer university scholarships;
to coordinate the issuance of parking decals and faculty/staff/student
identification cards;
to coordinate Awards Day activities;
to ensure the development and implementation of a student tracking
system;
to publish, review, revise and distribute the Lakeview Living Guide for
residential students;
to develop, review, revise and distribute a policies/procedures manual for
the Lakeview Resident Manager and the Resident Assistants; and
to coordinate the college’s spring graduation ceremony.
Other Responsibilities
To assume other work related responsibilities as assigned by the President.

Performance Evaluation
The Dean of Student Affairs will be evaluated annually by the President.
F.
Qualifications
The Dean of Students Affairs must have a minimum of five years’ full-time
experience in a two or four year college or university in an area of student affairs.
In addition, the Dean must have earned a minimum of a master’s degree in
counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Salary Schedule
The salary schedule for this position is based on State Salary Schedule B.
NOTE: Physical characteristics indicate standard functions for essential job tasks, but are
