Board Advisory Committees: Membership Application Information
Last updated: March 2013
Thank you for your interest in Park Day’s Board Advisory Committees
Board Advisory Committees aim to draw a diverse complement of people who are skilled,
committed and hardworking members from the Park Day School community and beyond. The
committees serve the school by bringing together the diverse perspectives, backgrounds,
professional and personal skills, effort and experiences of a group of individuals who can work
as a team. We encourage members to serve for at least two years, but a one-year term is possible.
Committee service generally entails attending meetings (usually monthly) and giving 1-5 hours
per month in follow-up work. All applicants to Board Committees are greatly appreciated. We
hope that this information makes it easier for you to contribute to Park.
Timeline
Applications may be submitted at any time during the year, however, the priority is to build the
committees in the spring for the upcoming year.
 February/March: Outreach; those interested submit their application
 April/May: decisions are made as to committee composition
 May/June: New members are provided with orientation.
 August/September: Committees start their work
Process
To express interest in a Board Advisory Committee, please take the following steps:
1. Fill out the nominations form, which can be provided by the Board Chair and Cathy Shields,
or accessed online at: http://www.parkdayschool.org/domain/20 .
2. Email the form to the Board Chair at: board.chair@parkdayschool.org AND to the Head of
School’s assistant at siobhan.cassidy@parkdayschool.org .
3. Receipt of your application will be confirmed within one week.
4. The Board’s Committee Chairs (who lead the committees), the Board Chair, and the Head
of School will review applicants and make determinations
5. You should hear from the Board Chair or Committee Chair within one month. If your
application does not fit the needs of the committee of interest, you will be provided with
ideas of places where the school needs help that may be a better fit.
6. When you join a committee, you sign a non-binding agreement outlining the mutual
expectations of committee service. Your signature indicates that you hold a common
understanding and support of the roles and methods that ensure committees run smoothly
and constructively in the best interest of the school and with regard for the committee
chairs’ duties.
7. You will be provided with orientation, usually in the May proceeding your term.
8. Welcome! Have fun, get to know other great parents, work hard, and thank you!
