Reporting to the Director of Admissions in Reno, this position designs, develops and implements comprehensive market analyses and recruitment plans that will maximize enrollment growth of high caliber undergraduate students from southern Nevada who are of diverse backgrounds and experience. The Associate Director of Admissions supervises three admissions and recruitment coordinators, two support staff and three student employees. This position is also responsible for the development and supervision of a full service admissions office in Las Vegas. The Associate Director initiates, develops, implements and evaluates comprehensive recruitment programs and strategies designed to increase university undergraduate enrollment of freshmen and transfer students from diverse ethnic, socio-economic, and academic backgrounds and experience. This position develops assessment measures that ensure the best utilization of budgets and resources. The Associate Director plans and implements all southern Nevada school visitations, student recruitment programs and special events including formalized visitation programs to campus by prospective students, campus visits by high school and community college counselors, financial aid presentations, prospective student focus groups, and direct mail activities for the purpose of increasing new student enrollment from southern Nevada. 2. Market Analysis, Enrollment Management and Recruitment: 45% Market Analysis: Conducts detailed market segment analyses utilizing statistical modeling probability as a means of maximizing enrollment yield from southern Nevada. Provides regular communication to the Reno campus regarding recruitment opportunities as a result of these analyses. Maximizes the use of Recruitment Plus, the university’s comprehensive recruitment database as a means of current and historical analyses of yield. Partners with Financial Aid and Residential Life and Housing in the implementation of the Noel Levitz Enrollment Management Financial Leveraging Program. Enrollment Management: Sets and implements annual recruitment and enrollment objectives for Southern Nevada. Monitors progress of recruitment goals and assesses recruitment strategies based upon enrollment results. Conducts follow-up assessment of those students who are admitted but chose not to enroll. Develops strategies to maximize enrollment yield form applications. Recruitment: Provides an office that is consistent with a one-stop shop approach for prospective students in southern Nevada thereby eliminating the need for students to contact various offices on campus. Provides direct service to clients as well as training the staff to counsel and advise prospective students and their parents through all stages of the admission cycle: inquiry, application, admission and registration. Answers inquiries, collects completed applications, conducts preliminary evaluation of applicant admissibility, makes admission recommendations, and when necessary, provides students with alternative admission’s options. Anticipates and resolves complex problems relating to admission, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and housing. Guides students and parents through the steps, procedures and policies required to reach the enrolled student stage. Initiates and maintains contact with prospective students and their parents through one-on-one appointments, email, phone calls and direct mail 2 School Relations: 15% Assigns recruitment territories to the admissions and recruitment staff to encompass all of southern Nevada including public and private high schools in Clark, Nye, and Lincoln County as well as the three campuses of the Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN). Analyzes the recruitment needs and cost/benefit ratio of resources allocated to these efforts. Supervises the coordination of school visit scheduling, supervises and trains recruiters to ensure that the university is being professionally and accurately represented. Visit schools to build and foster a strong relationship with, and provide necessary information to students, teachers, counselors and administrative staff. Special Events and Community Relations: 15% Ensures southern Nevada representation and support for special events including but not limited to Wolf Pack Prep, Fall Preview, Las Vegas College Fair, Silver Scholars. Plans agendas and activities, recruits speakers and collaborates with academic staff to educate parents about the college process. Facilitates the smooth transition of new students to the university through special recruitment events in Las Vegas, such as housing information sessions, music auditions, financial aid workshops, prospective student focus group meetings, school visits by university academic representatives. Plans, promotes, schedules, and participates in one-day visits to campus by prospective students and School Counselors from southern Nevada. Collaborates with on-campus faculty and staff to coordinate a successful campus visit. Follows up with trip participants regarding application to and enrollment to the University. Participates in Clark County School District sponsored events. Participates in individual high school special events. Special Events to Increase Diversity: In order to recognize, appreciate, and serve the cultural differences and special needs of students and families, participate in the following events aimed at underrepresented students: Multicultural Financial Aid and Scholarship Workshops Speak on behalf of the University at workshops sponsored by the Clark County School District for high school students and their families. Each session of the workshop is aimed at a specific ethnic group. Prepare and present presentations for students and parents on the resources available on campus for students of color, applying for financial aid and University of Nevada, Reno scholarships. Latin Campus of Commerce Member of the Latin Chamber of Commerce. Attend monthly meetings, connect with community leaders, participate in planning and recruiting students for “Career Day”, in which approximately 400 Latino youth participate; member of the team to interview and choose recipient of the Latin Chamber Scholarships. Depending upon availability of funds, the Latin Chamber awards 40-50 scholarships annually. Latino Youth Leadership Conference Serve on the planning committee to plan and organize four-day youth leadership conference for Latino high school juniors and seniors. Work closely with the university’s Academic Student Support Services program for underrepresented and first time college students. Screen and recommend, when eligible, students for the program; educate prospective students on the benefits of the program. Member of the Las Vegas Urban Chamber of Commerce. Initiates, develops and implements programs as needed to increase enrollment of underrepresented students. 3 Human Resource Management – 20% Administer human resource planning, staffing and development, including orientation, training and ongoing support and evaluation. Resolve employee relations problems & assist directors to resolve related problems. Monitor employee management practices to promote efficiency and effectiveness, as well as adherence to university policy and procedures. Promote staff development among the members of the office. Advise the Director of Admissions on staffing issues. Supervise the professional and classified staff who are direct reports. Serve as an advocate for staff. This position must create a strong, visible, progressive university presence in Southern Nevada to maximize the continued growth of the university and increasing the diversity of the university’s student body. Failure for this position to create this strong presence in southern Nevada would negatively impact on the number and type of new diversity students who enroll in the university. The position also must create a positive impact with southern Nevada community leaders, prospective student and their parents; high school and community college personnel perceive the university. Often, this is the first representative from the university that southern Nevadans meet.
