MARBLE FALLS ISD FALLS CAREER HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS I. Guidelines considered by the Falls Placement Committee include: a. 16 years of age b. Completion of 8 credits c. Reading at an 8th to 9th grade level d. Students who have dropped out & are returning to school e. Students who have completed 4 years of high school, but do not have credits to graduate f. Students who are in their 4th year of high school, but need more credits than the high school can offer to graduate with their class II. Applications for Falls Career High School will be located at the following locations in the district: a. Counselor’s office at Marble Falls High School b. Falls Career High School c. Central office (Special Services) III. If the student is coming from out of the district, the regular out of district transfer procedures must be adhered to and an approval letter must be obtained from the Superintendent prior to submitting an application to the Falls Placement Committee. IV. The applicant may turn in the application to any of the following people: a. Janna Johnson in the MFHS Counselor’s office b. Jeanette Tennison, the secretary of Falls Career High School c. Trisha Clifton, the secretary for special services in the central office V. Applications turned in at MFHS or FCHS will be sent to the Special Services Office within 2 working days. VI. The High School staff members will send the following information to the Special Services Office within 5 days of notification that a student has turned in an application: a. Transcript – Counselor’s secretary b. TAKS scores - Counselor’s secretary Revised 6-2012 MARBLE FALLS ISD c. Recent grades not included on a transcript - Counselor’s secretary d. Personal Graduation Plan - Counselor’s secretary e. Discipline records – Grade level principals secretary f. Attendance records – Attendance Clerk VII. The FCHS principal will obtain a transcript from the student’s current school and evaluate it for possible placement at FCHS. This should be completed within 5 days of the application. VIII. Students who have not passed TAKS or EOC will need to take the current grade level released TAKS or EOC. This will be done with the Falls Career High School student services coordinator. IX. Once all information is obtained, the Placement Committee will review the application and schedule an interview with the student. Interviews will take place at the Special Services office. These will take approximately 30 minutes. X. The committee will consist of the Executive Director of Special Services – Dr. Susan Maughan (Chair), a High School Assistant Principal and Ms. Little – Principal of FCHS. XI. The Placement Committee will rate the applicant on criteria 1 – 3 as a team. Committee members will then rate the applicant on criteria 4 – 5 individually. All of these scores will be added to obtain total points. Students with the highest number of points will be admitted first. XII. The Placement Committee will meet as needed to review the students’ applications and ratings will be reviewed. Should the application be approved, the student’s name will be added to the waiting list in order of their ranking. In case of a tie in ranking scores, the Placement Committee will go by the date the application was received. a. The first meeting each year will occur the first week in August. b. The last meeting for placement during the current school year will be in April. c. The committee will meet the 1st week in May and June to determine placements for fall. A student who is on target to graduate from Marble Falls High School may fill out an application, but should be aware that they may be placed at the bottom of the waiting list. XIV. If an application is declined for admittance to FCHS, a letter will be mailed to the applicant stating why and what he/she can do to resubmit an application at a later date. XV. If openings come available, students will be placed in FCHS according to the ranking established that month. XVI. Students should be aware that the ranking list might change each month as additional students are added to the list. XVII. Students in Special Education may apply to FCHS, but must meet the same requirements established for other students. Once the placement committee accepts them to the program, an ARD meeting must be held to develop an appropriate individual education plan. XVIII. Potential emergency placements must go through the executive committee. Either principal may call and request a meeting should there be extenuating circumstances, which may require an emergency placement. Two or more members of the executive committee must be present to consider the placement. Revised 6-2012
