TERRA STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Fremont, OH 43420 Assessment of Student Learning Monitoring Report MEETING DATE: December 4, 2013 TOPIC: Assessment of Student Learning Review of Calendar Year 2013 for Assessment of Student Learning: This year has primarily focused on implementing the new process/protocol for academic assessment at Terra State. Presented to the full-time faculty in February 2013, this protocol focuses on assessment of stated learning outcomes in a three-year cycle featuring annual rotation of outcomes to be assessed. The first phase of this implementation focused on assessment planning at the college, program, and course levels, with a target date for all planning activities of May 2013. As of November 2013, 37 of 62 non-exempt associate degree programs (59.7%) have completed the planning steps, with a total of 48 programs (77.4%) having completed at least part of the planning process. The 14 remaining programs are, by and large, programs that have no full-time faculty assigned to them, have recently hired a full-time faculty member after a period of vacancy, or are undergoing curricular changes that have required an extension to their process. Moreover, assessment data regarding two of the College’s General Learning Outcomes has been collected for Spring 2013 from 34 of the 62 programs (54.8%), and programs will be submitting their Fall 2013 data on the same two General Learning Outcomes at the close of the Fall semester. To date, faculty have submitted assessments of more than 1,100 student assignments related to the College’s communications outcome, and some 350 student assignments related to the College’s global learning outcome (a disparity which is to be expected due to the prevalence of communications activities in collegelevel coursework). Programs will submit reports on the Program Learning Outcomes or Course Learning Outcomes measured in 2013 by January 24, 2014, and the Assessment Committee will issue a report on the General Learning Outcomes measured in 2013, including the faculty assessments, and including student assessment from the 2013 CCSSE survey and Terra State’s 2013 in-house graduation survey. 1 Achievements for Assessment of Student Learning November 2012 through December 2013: Examination of General Learning Outcomes. Completed January 2013. The College’s General Learning Outcomes were examined and revised by the Assessment Committee. In addition to non-substantive revisions to the wording of the five existing General Learning Outcomes, a sixth Outcome was added, covering the College’s objective regarding students’ digital literacies; this is General Learning Outcome #6 in the List of General Learning Outcomes (Revised January 2013) below. Gain approval for revised Assessment Procedures, calendar, and cycles. Completed February 2013.
