Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisation's goals (its expected outcome and how it is achieved). The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for quality controlled clinical investigations and computer processing in Nuclear Medicine & Bone Density, laboratory procedures including the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals and therapy administration using radionuclides, as requested by the Nuclear Medicine Physician. 2. Reporting/Working Relationships (to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation). Although initially based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the incumbent may be required to work in any site of the Central Northern Adelaide Health Service. Required to work at both the Lyell McEwin Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Nuclear Medicine and Bone Density Departments. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will be required to participate in weekend on-call and overtime work, on a roster basis. Required to participate on the Bone Mineral Densitometry roster. Must be prepared to attend relevant meetings and staff development / education activities as required. A formal performance appraisal will be conducted annually. Some out of hours work may be required. Statement of Key Responsibilities/Duties (group into major areas of responsibility/ activity and list in descending order of importance) Ensure that correct processes and procedures of the Nuclear Medicine laboratory are adhered to by: Maintaining correct handling of radioactive materials in accordance with Regulations under the Radiation Control Act. Preparing radiopharmaceuticals for patient injection or ingestion. Labelling all radioactive doses for patients accurately and clearly according to the Nuclear Medicine Department protocol. Administering radionuclide therapy doses according to laboratory protocol. Performing and recording quality control on radiopharmaceuticals and laboratory equipment. Reporting all abnormalities of quality control and unusual results and events to the Chief Technologist. Arranging for accurate collection of body fluid samples from patients. Observing safety guidelines for correct handling of patient body fluids. Maintaining accurate record of preparation, dispensing and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals. Managing the laboratory including receiving, checking, logging and storing of radionuclides and pharmaceutical. Disposing of infected or hazardous materials. Ensure correct processes and procedures in imaging technique and computer processing are adhered to by: Operating all departmental imaging equipment competently. Recognising and report equipment faults. Demonstrating safe lifting and transferring technique. Performing Nuclear Medicine procedures according to departmental protocols. Assisting in development of new techniques. Using appropriate radiation protection for self, staff and others. Performing dark room procedures according to departmental protocols. Performing procedures and acquire computer data with mobile camera in accordance with Department protocols. Demonstrating proper management of work flow in rostered area.
