Boyertown Junior High East 9th Grade Art Mr. Fegely For most of you, welcome back to my classroom! I taught many of you two years ago in 7th grade art. My teaching style is the same, but now, since you have signed up for an elective course, I have greater expectations for you and will push you to achieve even more impressive work. Regardless of whether this is a 2D or 3D class, an Advanced or regular course, my procedures are the same as they have always been. Aside from the regular school rules, the following are policies to make my classes fair and orderly: I. II. III. IV. V. Keep talking to a minimal. Art is about expression and sharing it with others. However, if you are talking during demonstrations or just talking and not working, you may miss vital info or not get your work done. Respect others. Everyone wants the chance to be successful in class, and that means you have to be mindful of others as they work. If others are speaking to the class, pay attention. Just the same, respect each other during project-making. You wouldn’t want someone messing up your project while you are working, would you? Respect the supplies. Though we are blessed with many supplies and a nice budget, wasting supplies is like throwing money away. Just the same, do not be afraid to make a mistake on a project. Even Michelangelo had to start all over again. Be responsible. When it’s clean-up time that means everyone works together to get this room in the best possible condition for the next class coming in. Take chances. Art is about risk. We wouldn’t have the variety of stuff available to us if someone didn’t branch out of the norm. It’s hard work to get the idea in your head onto paper; but if you don’t even try, it’s never going to get there. The main difference between how I approached 7th grade art to now is that you must now participate in an End of Course Assessment (Final) for your 9th grade art class. It is worth 1/5 of your year grade, with each quarter making up 20% of the total. The grades each quarter will consist of projects, sketches, worksheets, and small achievement tasks. I also will grade regularly on your project progress, to guarantee that you are keeping up with your classmates and maybe even putting in additional time outside of class on some of the more extensive projects. The big thing this year is to be willing to be different. I no longer give top grades to just being “eh” with your projects. Good enough may not be good enough. How can your work be unique? How can you stand out from your peers? Be willing to be different. That’s the true artistic life.
