1. Do You Have Insomnia?

Brigham and Women's Hospital is conducting a research study testing the effects of a sleep medication and metabolism (how the body processes sugar). We are currently enrolling people between the ages of 25-55 who have insomnia.

The study involves 9 visits, including 3 overnight stays.

Compensation is dependent on the number of completed visits & ranges from $25 up to $1,800.

2. Do You Have Asthma?

The Asthma Research Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is recruiting asthmatics aged 18-50 who use asthma medication to control their symptoms. The research study involves 12 visits over a 6-month period and involves bronchoscopies. The study’s purpose is to assess the safety and effectiveness of a new medication in the treatment of asthma. 3. Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston seeks 20 to 75 year old males and females with high blood pressure (ranging from 135/85 to 160/100) and obstructive sleep apnea to participate in a research study investigating a new treatment for high blood pressure. The study involves using a breathing device every day at home for 8 weeks. You may continue to take your blood pressure medicines during the study. You will have your blood pressure measured for 24 hours every 4 weeks. You may will receive up to $550.00 payment for participation. 4. Are you depressed? Have you stopped getting your period?

Women who are currently depressed and have not had their period for at least three months are needed for a research study at Massachusetts General Hospital. Participants cannot be on oral contraceptive (birth control) pills, and must be 18-45. The study looks at the role of cortisol and other hormones on bone health. Study participants will come to

Massachusetts General Hospital for three visits: two outpatient visits, and one overnight stay. Research participants receive a physical examination, nutritional and body composition analyses, hormonal evaluation, and bone density information at no cost.

Participants also receive reimbursement of local travel/ parking costs, as well as up to

6. General Anesthesia Study

The Mass General Hospital Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care is recruiting healthy, non-smoking adults, ages 18-36 years for a research study to identify the sites of action of Propofol anesthesia in the brain. We will be using magnetic resonance imaging

(MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) to observe brain activity. Studies will be conducted at the MGH General Clinical Research Center in the Charlestown Navy Yard, and will consist of a physical exam and a 7-hour imaging/EEG/anesthesia session. 8. Got Fibroids?

Volunteers Wanted: SISTERS WHO HAVE (OR HAVE HAD) FIBROIDS

The Center for Uterine Fibroids at Brigham and Women's Hospital seeks participants for a study to identify the causes of uterine fibroid tumors. We are looking for families in which two sisters have (or have had) uterine fibroids. The study involves filling out two surveys and giving a blood sample, all of which can be done by mail at no cost to you.

9. Brigham and Women’s Hospital is seeking volunteers for an innovative and unique research project.

OMNI-Carb is a research study of how blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose are affected by what we eat. Blood pressure monitoring, all meals for 21 weeks (1 meal daily in our clinic, M-F), and a stipend of $1500-$1900 are provided.

To join you must be

30 years or older

Have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 25 or higher

Interested in changing your eating pattern for 21 weeks

Willing to come to our clinic M-F for one meal

Have normal or mildly elevated blood pressure

Are not on blood pressure or cholesterol medications

Are not diabetic

10. Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Depression in Bipolar Disorder

The MGH Bipolar Clinic and Research Program is currently seeking volunteers to participate in a research study evaluating a psychosocial therapy for the treatment of depressive symptoms in patients with bipolar disorder. In this study, patients will receive

18 sessions of therapy for bipolar depression and a brain scan at no cost.

11. Researchers from Brigham and Women’s hospital are seeking men and women who are suffering from tunnel vision. If you are between the age of 21 and 65 and cannot see as wide or complete a field of vision as normal, you may qualify for a research study. Eligible candidates will be asked to come to Birgham and Women’s Hospital for a single visit, which consists of answering brief questionnaires, and being given a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan of the brain.

13. Healthy Women Ages 21 and older

Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Foundation for Informed Medical

Decision Making are conducting a study to understand the quality of treatment decisions.

We are seeking healthy women to fill out a questionnaire about breast cancer treatment.

If you are 21 or older and have never been diagnosed with breast cancer, you may be eligible to participate in the study. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

All inquiries and returned surveys are kept confidential and identified by code numbers only. Participants will be reimbursed $20 cash or equivalent.

14. Healthy Volunteers Wanted for a research study on Vitamin D Deficiency and

Immune Defense

Vitamin D deficiency is a common problem in the Boston area. Most people with

Vitamin D deficiency do not know they have it.

We are looking for healthy volunteers, ages 18-80, to participate in a research study of vitamin D and the immune system. We will check blood levels of vitamin D levels and a protein involved in immune defense.

Participants found to be vitamin D deficient will be offered vitamin D supplements and return in two weeks for repeat levels.

There will be no cost to anyone who participates. No investigational drugs will be used.

All individuals welcome. Women and minorities are encouraged to participate.

15. Are you healthy and between 30 and 60 years old?

We seek men and women to participate as healthy controls (comparison group) for a diabetes research study. You must have never had diabetes. This study involves a single visit to the Mass General hospital during which you will have a glucose tolerance test to screen for diabetes. Recent normal results of this test can be used instead. You will also have two small punch skin biopsies removed from your lower leg under local anesthesia.
