2. Do you want to quit smoking once and for all?
Have you been smoking 10 or more cigarettes a day for the past 6 months?
If you are a female between the ages of 18 and 65, you may be eligible to participate in
our research study at no cost to you. The study involves an 8-week smoking cessation
phase, where you will be given free nicotine patches to help you quit smoking. If you are
able to successfully quit smoking after 7 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (i.e. the
patch), you will enter into the 5-week relapse prevention phase of the study where you
will stop using the patch, and you will be randomly assigned to receive an investigational
drug that may be an effective treatment in helping prevent recently quit smokers from
relapsing or placebo (i.e. inactive medication).
Study participation involves weekly or biweekly visits to our clinic at Massachusetts
General Hospital and the completion of computerized and behavioral tasks at three points
throughout the 15-week study. Additional compensation will be provided.

3. Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Depression in Bipolar Disorder
The MGH Bipolar Clinic and Research Program is currently seeking volunteers to
participate in a research study evaluating a psychosocial therapy for the treatment of
depressive symptoms in patients with bipolar disorder. In this study, patients will receive
18 sessions of therapy for bipolar depression and a brain scan at no cost.

4. Women with Heart Disease
Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA are currently enrolling
women who suffer from chest pain due to heart disease. If you have had a prior bypass
graft or stent procedure but still have chest pain that limits your day-to-day activities, are
taking at least 2 medications for your chest pain, and can take an exercise treadmill test,
you may be eligible to enroll in this research study. The study includes 2-3 screening

5. Researchers from Brigham and Women’s hospital are seeking men and women
who are suffering from tunnel vision. If you are between the age of 21 and 65 and
cannot see as wide or complete a field of vision as normal, you may qualify for a research
study. Eligible candidates will be asked to come to Birgham and Women’s Hospital for a
single visit, which consists of answering brief questionnaires, and being given a
functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan of the brain.

6. Weight Loss Study for patients with type-II diabetes
The MGH Weight Center is seeking eligible participants to take part in a clinical trial for
an experimental weight loss medication. We are looking for people who are overweight
or obese and have type-II diabetes. Study related exams and drug as well as individual
nutritional counseling will be provided free of charge for those who qualify.
You may be eligible to participate in this investigational research study if you:
Are between 18 and 65 years old
Have type-II (adult onset) diabetes treated with oral medications only (no insulin)
Are overweight
Are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant in the next year

7. General Anesthesia Study
The Mass General Hospital Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care is recruiting
healthy, non-smoking adults, ages 18-36 years for a research study to identify the sites of
action of Propofol anesthesia in the brain. We will be using magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) to observe brain activity. Studies will be
conducted at the MGH General Clinical Research Center in the Charlestown Navy Yard,
and will consist of a physical exam and a 7-hour imaging/EEG/anesthesia session. Two
or three visits will be required to complete the study. Subjects will receive up to $200 for

8. Volunteers Needed for MRI Research Study on Depression:
Caucasian women ages 30-44 with a history of depression who are no longer depressed
are needed for a research study on hormone and brain activity in depression. This
research study involves two 4 1/2 hour visits, two weeks apart, to our imaging center at

11. Depression, Inflammation and measures of aging
We are looking for participants in a research study examining how depression with or
without anxiety impacts inflammation and measures of aging. We are trying to
understand the relationship between stress related to suffering from depression and how it
may cause cells in the body to age, and thus impact long term health. You may be eligible
if:
1. You are currently depressed and are not currently taking an anti-depressant
medication.
2. You are between 18 and 70 years of age.
This study would involve having a formal psychiatric interview, filling out some
questionnaires and having a blood draw. We may ask you to return 4 times over the next

8 years to repeat the same procedure. There is no treatment offered in this study, but this
study can be done in conjunction with several treatment studies at our program.
Procedures will take about 2 and ½ hours each visit, and participants will be paid up to

12. Do you have Atrial Fibrillation?
Researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital are seeking people with Atrial
Fibrillation to take part in a study about AF. Participants will be interviewed, have an ecg
taken, and give a one time blood sample. Participation involves one brief visit to the
MGH.

13. Women with anorexia nervosa who are 18-45 years old and have not had their
period for at least 3 months, are needed for a research study at Massachusetts General
Hospital looking at the role of cortisol and other hormones on skeletal health.
Participants cannot be on oral contraceptive pills. The study includes an hour-long
screening session, a two-hour outpatient visit and a 24-hour inpatient stay. Participants
receive a physical examination, nutritional and body composition analyses, and a
hormonal evaluation, as well as bone density, blood, urine and saliva tests at no cost. For

14. MRI Research Study
MGH Department of Neurology & Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging in
Charlestown Navy Yard seek young, middle-aged, and older adults (ages 18 and older)
for a research study looking at characteristics of normal aging and examining changes in
the brain and cognition (thinking) in Alzheimer's and Huntington's Diseases. Study
includes a brief medical history, 90 minute neuropsychological exam, and 2 hour imaging
session. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will be used to examine brain structure, and
to see how the brain responds while performing a memory task. Payment for
participation: $50 per session for each of the two sessions (MRI/cognitive testing). For

15. Healthy Subjects Who Have Experienced Trauma Wanted For
A Study of Brain Activity in People with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Dr. Lisa Shin and colleagues in the Department of Psychiatry at the Massachusetts
General Hospital (MGH) are conducting a research study to examine brain activity in
individuals who have posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as compared to those who do
not have PTSD. We are seeking healthy comparison subjects who have experienced
traumatic events in the past. Participation will take up to 5 hours of your time. It will
involve undergoing a psychiatric assessment, filling out questionnaires, providing a saliva

sample, and lying in a scanner while “pictures” of your brain are taken using functional
