To provide high quality training, information and guidance on best practice to professionals
working in and alongside Umbrella Sexual Health Services, in order to:








Increase awareness and understanding of the effects and impacts of sexual violence,
abuse, exploitation and coercion on women and men, girls and boys
Improve responses to people affected by and at risk of sexual violence, abuse,
exploitation and coercion
Inform people of the "Social Trauma Model" and the phenomena of sexual trauma,
post trauma stress, rape trauma syndrome and dissociation
Ensure that services provide client focused support which safely facilitates victims
and survivors to disclose traumatic experiences, feel empowered and make informed
decisions and choices.
Promote awareness of the experiences and health needs of people who are living
with or have escaped sexual violence, abuse, coercion or exploitation
Ensure that the voices, needs, choices and rights of victims and survivors are heard,
understood and acted upon.
Increase confidence to routinely enquire about client's experiences of sexual violence,
abuse, exploitation and coercion so appropriate assessment, safeguarding and
reduction of risk can be made to keep people safe
Ensure that victims/survivors can access the health and other support services that
they need.
The Specialist Trainer will work closely with all Umbrella services and partner organisations.
They will have experience and understanding of the traumatic effects and impacts of sexual
violence, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual coercion.
Main Duties
Training, Education and Awareness Based Work










To design and deliver training sessions and programmes to professionals working in and alongside
Umbrella Sexual Health Services, about sexual violence, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and
sexual coercion
Undertake training needs analysis across Umbrella services and partner organisations which
identifies gaps in skills, knowledge and/or values and design and deliver training to address these
gaps
To deliver high quality, interactive and participatory training sessions and programmes
To involve the ISVA's in training sessions and programmes, so they can explain clients criminal,
legal and civil remedies and housing options and the specialist support they provide
Ensure that the training delivered increases awareness of and referral to ISVA and other specialist
sexual violence and abuse support services, to enable clients to access the services they need, and
to which they are entitled to.
To ensure that everyone attending training considers child and adult safeguarding issues at all
times
To ensure that all training covers the gendered nature of sexual offences, the difficulties and
obstacles to disclosing (including to reporting), grooming and the power and control dynamics
involved in sexual violence, abuse, coercion and exploitation
To ensure that professionals attending training have opportunities to practice asking questions
about disclosure and responding appropriately to the answer. This is to: a) increase people's
confidence about routinely enquiring about client's experiences of sexual violence, abuse,
exploitation and coercion and b) ensure that they are equipped to make appropriate decisions and
assessments, which safeguard people and reduce their risk
Feedback to Umbrella and partner organisations any difficulties victims and survivors report in
accessing and receiving services and offer relevant training to address these difficulties
Develop good working relationships with professionals working in and alongside Umbrella
Services to provide specialist support, information and best practice guidance outside of training,
e.g. at team meetings, over the phone, by email or on a case by case basis
General





Manage workload in a focused and time effective manner.
Write, design and maintain written notes and records of all training sessions and programmes.
Establish quarterly targets, outputs and outcomes for all training sessions and programmes
delivered and develop systems to enable effective monitoring to be undertaken
Compile monitoring reports to evaluate and demonstrate the effectiveness of the training
sessions and programmes delivered
Be aware of, follow and train others in the best practice procedures, policies and protocols, so
that the safety of clients is kept central at all times.














Contribute to the development of best practice policies, protocols, guidelines and strategies
to improve responses to, and services and outcomes for victims and survivors of sexual
violence, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual coercion.
To develop and maintain effective systems with key partners to communicate new
developments around best practice and emerging information about sexual violence and
abuse etc
To participate in team meetings.
To have an extensive understanding of the myths and facts of sexual violence, rape trauma
syndrome, the long term mental health effects and social impacts of sexual violence, abuse,
exploitation and coercion and self harm, suicidal feelings and attempts.
To keep aware of developments, issues and emerging themes around sexual violence, abuse
etc
To develop bespoke training packages and resources, which can be sold and circulated across
the UK, in order to widely disseminate best practice and generate income
To be aware of other training resources available and to utilise these where appropriate.
To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of RSVP Training Services.
To be familiar with all aspects of the work of RSVP and Umbrella Services.
Work flexibly as a member of the team and be responsive to changing needs.
Be willing to undertake relevant training as required.
Work within the policies and procedures of RSVP and Umbrella and demonstrate a
commitment to their values, principles and ethos.
Maintain agreed levels of confidentiality.
Undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities of the
post holder.

Essential:
Employment History
Experience of working within a specialist rape and sexual abuse
organisation.
Two years experience of delivering specialist training about the needs of
victims and survivors of sexual violence, abuse, exploitation and coercion
Experience of delivering high quality, interactive and participatory training
sessions
Skills and experience
Extensive knowledge and understanding of the nature of sexual violence,
sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual coercion
Extensive specialised knowledge of the immediate and longer-term
impacts of sexual violence, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual
coercion, on children, young people and adults (including girls and boys
and women and men).
High standards of practice and presentation of work
Able to prioritise own workload and deal with competing demands
Experience of working with and delivering training to a range of statutory,
non-statutory and voluntary agencies
Extensive knowledge and understanding of child safeguarding issues,
legislation and best practice
Extensive knowledge and understanding of adult safeguarding issues,
