Student Link – Mark Lillywhite 01332 258147 mark.lillywhite@nhs.net Pre-placement preparation and Day 1 Recommended reading prior to placement: lower limb anatomy, basic ankle, knee and hip assessments, the role of electrotherapy and exercise planning and progression. On your first day report to area at agreed time with clinical educator on first morning. Changing facilities and lockers are available. Recommended equipment to bring- tape measure, goniometer and black pen. Come in uniform with smart trainers or shoes. Bring lunch or money to buy food. About the unit/department Our aim is to treat a range of lower limb pathologies ranging from trauma to degenerative conditions. All patients are assessed on initial referral to the gym, and their treatment carried out on a 1:1 with the physiotherapist or in a variety of class options. We work closely with the Occupational Therapy (OT) Heavy Workshop. Currently we have 1 Band 7 clinical specialist, 2 band 6 physiotherapists and 1 band 5 rotational physiotherapist. We have 2 1/2 Physiotherapy assistants working in the gym and clerical support. Staffing: Band 7 Physiotherapist Karen Colclough (Static part-time). Band 6 Physio – Rachel Yerburgh (Static)/ Tim Barker (Static), Mark Lillywhite (Static) Band 5 Physio Rotational Assistants Hayley Donaghy, Hannah Ruczowski (Part time), Alex Lee Clerical Support Hilary Weldrick, Anna-Leah, Anna Kellaway, Conditions likely to be seen whilst on placement Ankle: Fractures, soft tissue injuries, osteoarthritis (OA), Tibia / Fibula fractures; Knee: ligament reconstructions, fractures, soft tissue injuries, Knee Replacements, Anterior Knee Pain, OA, osteotomies. Hip: fractures, replacements, groin pain, OA, labral tears. Learning Opportunities Class taking; Diary and caseload management; MDT working with Out-Patient OT; Lower limb assessment and treatment skills; Electrotherapy; Clinical reasoning; General Information Exercise progression. Working hours are generally Mon – Fri between 8.30am and 5pm, however these may vary slightly depending on your Clinical Educator. Uniform of tunic or white polo shirt, navy trousers or smart navy tracksuit bottoms and shoes / trainers. Students are welcome to use the staffroom at lunch time or league of friends canteen (junction 9) or there is a small café at Junction 3 in the main hospital. Lunch time will vary between 30 minutes and 1 hour in line with Clinicians hours of work. Lockers and changing facilities are available for use over the placement.
