Reporting an Absence
Reporting Absence - We are excited to announce that our "new" website is up and running! One of the new
features is you are now able to report your child's absence on the website! Click on "Report a Student Absence" and
it will direct you to the page to complete and submit. Once you complete the information and click on submit, the
information will be emailed to Mrs. Duvall (attendance secretary) and Ms. Butler.

PAWS Incentive Program
We are in our last quarter of the school year. We do want to remind the students and parents of our continuing goals
of a safe, kind and prepared student body. The students love the Town Hall meetings each Thursday morning when
they are recognized for meeting these goals.
We do have consequences once a student has received three reminders. Our goal is that they won’t get that far! Once
a student has gotten three reminders during this school year, you will get a call from the administration (or a designee)
explaining the reason for the reminders. You should have seen copies of the reminders in their data notebooks.

Principal Report – Just as a reminder: the school building itself will be closed from the end of June until the week
before teacher’s return in August. The school will be considered a “hard hat” area. No one will be allowed to go to
their classrooms just to get one thing! The teachers will be sent an e-mail when the building is available. The main
office will be in the portable from the end of June through the middle of August.
The “End of Year” procedures were distributed and briefly discussed. Team leaders will share these with their teams.
The student survey from this spring was distributed and discussed as well. Copies of these will be made available
once we have the parent and staff survey information.
PTA Up-Dates – Mrs. Hinerman began by thanking the teachers for their participation in the Variety Show. The
show itself was highly successful and enjoyed by all.
Teacher Appreciation Week is the first week in May. Information will be going home through backpack mail. The
teachers asked if they could send it electronically as well. Mrs. Hinerman will look into this for us.
The PTA Treasurer, Mrs. Wessling, asked that all reimbursements from the staff be requested by June 1. She also
noted that the Scholastic Book monies are not completely used by all grade levels. Please let her know if you do not
want all of your money.
The PTA is investigating the use of a computer system for signing into the office and getting a printed sticky badge
using next year’s Direct Appeal money. This system is being used in many our MCPS schools.
The PTA did raise enough funds this year to purchase a third Promethean Board through their Direct Appeal. This is
wonderful news.
The time for the dedication of our new playground equipment purchased in honor of Mr. Alan Brenner is yet to be
determined. We will keep you posted once a time is firmed up for the dedication.
On April 28, the PTA Cluster Meeting will be here at Belmont Elementary School at 7 p.m. in the conference room.
PBIS – A team from Positive Behavior Intervention Systems will be coming out to our school on May 23rd to
informally interview the staff and students. Their goal is to get feedback for the committee as we plan for our next
school year.
On May 3rd, we will be taking a whole-school picture about 10:30. We will call classes to line up.
Reading/GT – The tickets for the Keys have been distributed.
SGA – SGA will be collecting money for the American Red Cross supporting the earthquake in Japan during the
week of April 27-29.
The SGA is also collecting gently used clothes to support DARE. The collection box is on the edge of the driveway
and will be there for one year. If students bring in a bag of clothing, please let the office know and we will collect the
clothes and put them in the box for you. Parents may drop them in the box themselves at any time.
Our next SMT meeting will be held on May 20, 2011 in the Media Center at 8 a.m.
