Catalog Description:
Covers the theory and clinical knowledge for safe and effective administration of
various anesthetic agents utilized in dentistry for pain control. Emphasis is on
injectable local anesthesia. A course fee is required.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:





Identify, locate and explain the significance of the nerves, muscles, ligaments,
blood vessels and bony landmarks associated with the administration of local
anesthesia
Demonstrate knowledge of pain physiology and neurophysiology related to
local anesthesia
Discuss indications and contraindications to local anesthesia
Describe the pharmacology of the major local anesthetic agents and
vasoconstrictors including how to calculate the maximum recommended doses
Demonstrate the proper technique for administering the following injections
safely and with minimal discomfort: anterior superior alveolar, middle
superior alveolar, posterior superior infiltratrtion, greater palatine, inferior
