Curriculum Committee New Course 1. Fill out a “New Course Proposal” form, available at the Spider site. (Faculty Meetings/Policies and Procedures Manual) 2. The department head approves the proposal (unless it is GSS or GSC). 3. Form is then sent to the Provost’s Office. Several other offices will also evaluate it before it advances to the next level. 4. Proposal is then presented by the Provost to the Academic Council, which generally meets on the fourth Thursday of the month. 5. Once reviewed by the Council, the proposal then goes to the Curriculum Committee, which generally meets on the second Thursday of the month. 6. If approved by that committee, the proposal is then presented to the next meeting of the full faculty – usually the next week but could be as many as five weeks later – for final action. (Generally, the process takes a minimum of eight weeks, under the current schedule) Major/Minor Proposals (includes revisions to current ones) 1. Fill out appropriate form found at the Spider site. (Faculty Meetings/Policies and Procedures Manual) 2. Same procedure as above (steps 2-6) Minor Catalog Changes 1. Fill out a “Minor Catalog Change” form, available at the Spider site. (Faculty Meetings/Policies and Procedures Manual) 2. Approval by the department head is all that is formally required. Sending a courtesy copy to the Curriculum Committee would be appreciated. 3. Forms should be forwarded to the Academics Programs Office. (Minor changes are considered such matters as title changes, numbers changes within the same range, and changes of frequency of courses.) Mini-term Courses 1. Fill out a “Mini Term Course Proposal” form, available at the Spider site. (Faculty Meetings/Policies and Procedures Manual) 2. The department head approves the proposal. 3. The proposal is submitted to the Provost for approval, and then goes directly to the Curriculum Committee for action. 4. If approved, no further action is required. The committee reports their action to the faculty. (Note that mini-term proposals should be submitted at least ten weeks before the course to begin, to insure timely action.)
