An unforgettable experience 學生: 國二禮班 林佑興 指導老師: 陳玟君 I had an unforgettable experience last summer. I caught and observed a giant wood spider. When I was on my way to meet my friend, I came across the giant spider and its web was built between two trees. Its web was as big as a bed and the spider was as big as a plate. When I saw it, I ran back home to get my net and a bug container. I kept on sweating with fear while trying to catch it. After I trapped it with my net, it struggled very violently for a while. Then it squeezed itself through my net. I was so afraid that it would attack me so I threw my net to the ground. The scary spider with long, thin legs then started crawling towards me. I put my bug container in its path; however, it didn’t crawl in. Instead, it quickly crawled up my arm. Its red knees, bright yellow abdomen and black head reminded me of an evil witch. I wanted to get it off but I was terrified and froze in fear. After it reached my head, I slowly lowered my head to the ground and then it slowly crawled off to the ground. I used my bug container to trap it again, and this time it worked. When I went home, I wrote down its characteristics and specific details in my journal. The large yellow spots under the legs are a distinguishing characteristic of this species. Its web is about 2 meters across, and sometimes small birds or bats get caught in it. I kept it for a few days and then released it on an insect covered bush. Good-bye my evil witch friend. I will miss you.
