General Description (Purpose and Function):
The MRI Technologist position is highly skilled technical work responsible for operating computerized magnetic
resonance imagining or MRI scanners that uses magnetic waves to create pictures of an area of a patient’s body.
The overall goal of the MRI Technologist is to perform diagnostic imaging examinations used by physicians or
radiologic technologist or supervisors to check for any abnormalities to make proper diagnosis of illness or injury.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):














Operates MRI equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic and research purposes.
Sets up imaging area and selects appropriate coil based on information from exam triage form, attached
referring physician order and patient screening form.
Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices in order to obtain optimum views of
specific areas of the body.
Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation to obtain a diagnostic
exam.
Follows safety procedures by assessing and evaluating the patient both verbally and by reviewing notes in
the IDX-RIs/PAC, in the patient’s prescreening form.
Performs daily quality assurance measurement on MRI equipment.
Reports and documents any and all equipment issues to Chief Technologist.
Advises and assists Patient Clinical Assistant with work in progress.
Completes and or confirms patient documentation.
Assumes responsibility for patient receiving correct and complete set of copies on C or paper media
Takes direct appropriate action in emergency situations. (Refer to policy and procedures manuals).
Performs daily opening procedures on imaging equipment.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 Knowledge of and comply with quality control, ethical issues and regulations surrounding radiologic .


Knowledge of the full scope of MRI techniques and procedures
Knowledge of MRI physics



Ability to be able to follow direction and work well both independently and with other MRI Technologist,
supervisor, physicians, patients and business office staff.
Ability to adapt to new technologies and techniques.
Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette
Performs in tactful and professional manner.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
 Bachelor degree.

A minimum of one year of experience is required.
MRI license is required.
