Our Mission: Continuous Learning for All
Our Vision: To Be Wyoming’s Outstanding School in Achievement
and Character
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible
For students who follow these simple rules
this is the reward. A
“Blue Ticket” is earned by following these
three simple rules while at school; Be
Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible.
Teachers reward the students with the blue
ticket that is
two parts. The first part comes to the
office for a weekly drawing to choose a
free item from the Mustangs Market. The
second part is for a monthly drawing to
have lunch at Pizza Hut with our PBIS team.
Our Afflerbach students are so excited when
they earn a blue ticket! Ask your child if
they have earned a blue ticket and what
they did to earn it.  The Mustangs Market

End of first quarter is quickly approaching. Now is the best time to make sure
your child is heading in the right direction with their classroom work. If you have
questions regarding your child’s grades please call school and speak with your
child’s teacher. Remember you can log yourself into infinite campus and follow
your student’s grades. (www.laramie1.org, parents, grades-infinite campus portal,
grades-infinite campus website.) If you don’t remember your log-in information,
please call our help desk at 771-2242 for assistance. 
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming soon. You will soon receive your
invitation for parent teacher conferences on either October 30 or 31. Please try to
keep the scheduled time as much planning and time is spent trying to arrange for
parent with more than one student at Afflerbach. Should you need to reschedule,
please contact your child’s teacher directly. Thank you for your cooperation.
360 Fundraising orders have been submitted. Thank you to the families that
participated. Our fundraiser was a great success. Orders will be delivered to
Afflerbach on November 10th for parents to pick up. Please make these deliveries to
customers as within two days. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Breakfast and lunch are free for Afflerbach students this year. No application
needed for Afflerbach students. If a student wants an extra entrée or milk there is
a cost. Please put money in your child’s lunch account if they are asking for
additional food items. Thank you! 
To Ensure the Continued Safety of our students while they are in school, we are
asking that all visitors sign in at the office before leaving the lobby area. After
school, we are asking that all parents or siblings who are picking up an Afflerbach
student remain in the lobby and wait for the students to come to them. It is our
goals to reduce the number of people in the hallway during student’s instructional
time. Thank you!
Student Arrival Time: Students should not be arriving at Afflerbach until 8:00
a.m. unless they are enrolled in Our Great Kids. Please help your child schedule,
so that they will arrive on time and not early. Your cooperation is appreciated!

Asthma
Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It is one of the most common long-term diseases of children, but
adults can have asthma, too. Asthma causes wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing at night or
early in the morning. If you have
asthma, you have it all the time, but
you will have asthma attacks only when
something bothers your lungs.
In most cases, we don’t know what
causes asthma, and we don’t know how
to cure it. We know that if someone in
your family has asthma you are more
likely to have it.
How do you know you have
asthma? During a checkup, the doctor
will ask if you cough a lot, especially at
night, and whether your breathing
problems are worse after physical
activity or at certain times of year. The
doctor will also ask about chest
tightness, wheezing, and colds lasting
more than 10 days.
The doctor may also do a breathing test,
called spirometry, to find out how well
your lungs are working. The spirometer
can measure airflow before and after
you use asthma medicine.
What is an asthma attack? The
attack happens in your body’s airways,
which are the paths that carry air to
your lungs. As the air moves through
your lungs, the airways become smaller,
like the branches of a tree are smaller
than the tree trunk. During an asthma
attack, the sides of the airways in your
lungs swell and the airways shrink. Less
air gets in and out of your lungs, and
mucous that your body makes clogs up
the airways even more.
How Is Asthma Treated? Control
your asthma and avoid an attack by
taking your medicine (such as an
inhaler) exactly as your doctor tells you
and by staying away from things that
can trigger an attack. Some asthma
triggers include: pets, smoke, physical
activity, dust, mold and strong scents
such as candles and air fresheners.
