PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program
Florida Hospital for Children is a 200-bed acute care teaching hospital, including
a 53-bed Level III NICU and 28-bed Level II NICU, a 22-bed Level I PICU, 8-bed
Hematology/Oncology Unit, 8-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, 8-bed Bone Marrow
Transplant Unit, 44-bed General Medical/Surgical Unit, 16-bed Procedural
Sedation Unit, 10-bed CVICU, 16-bed ED, and Central Florida's only Renal
Transplant and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Programs. Florida Hospital for Children received a $10 million
contribution in 2007 from Walt Disney World towards an expansion project which was completed in early 2011.
It serves as a major tertiary facility in Orlando, Florida and is affiliated with seven adult campuses in Central Florida and
twenty-four throughout the state of Florida. Florida Hospital is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the #1 hospital in
Florida and one of the very best hospitals in the United States in 10 specialties. Florida Hospital has a long standing

programs to highly complex patient populations.
At Florida Hospital for Children, the pharmacy’s primary mission is to provide quality pharmaceutical care to improve the
patient's quality of life while providing support for caregivers. As part of multidisciplinary teams, we share the
responsibility of monitoring responses to drug therapy and optimizing care to improve patient outcomes. Residents who
complete the Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program at Florida Hospital for Children will develop the critical thinking skills
necessary to provide specialized, patient-focused care and become confident, independent pediatric clinical specialists in
the health care team. The program consists of the following learning experiences:
Required Learning Experiences:
 Pharmacy Distribution and Clinical Operations (Orientation)
 General Pediatrics (2 rotations)
 Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
 Pediatric Intensive Care
 Neonatal Intensive Care
 Ambulatory Care, Practice Management, Nutrition and
Pharmacokinetic Support (longitudinal)
Elective Learning Experiences (may select 4):
 Endocrinology
 Neurology
 Infectious Disease
 Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant
 Clinical Administration/Medication Safety
 May repeat required rotations for further
exposure/experience (exception: General
Pediatrics)
Required activities include a minimum of: 1 medication use evaluation, 1 research project suitable for publication and
presentation at a professional pharmacy meeting, 4 journal clubs, 4 patient case presentations, 1 Formulary review, 1
hour ACPE-accredited continuing education presentation, submission for a poster or platform presentation at a
professional meeting, pediatric pharmacy staff developments, and PALS certification. To build practice leadership skills,
participation will also be expected in the following: Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; Formulary Subcommittee;
performance improvement projects; student, employee, and resident teaching; and Medication Safety Committee.
Positions available: 2 full-time, 12 month commitment
Annual Stipend: $44,700
Travel support: ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and 1 professional pharmacy meeting
10 days paid vacation/sick/bereavement leave
Pediatric pharmacy staffing is required

Qualifications: Applicant should have a doctor of pharmacy degree and be in the process of completing a PGY-1
pharmacy residency or have the equivalent experience. Eligibility for Florida licensure is essential for fulfilling the
requirements of the application process. Applicants must be participants in the National Matching Services and the
PhORCAS. The following application materials must be submitted by the deadline: curriculum vitae, 3 letters of
recommendation utilizing the PhORCAS template (1 from clinical pharmacist, 1 from Residency Program Director),
transcripts from all colleges of pharmacy attended, and letter of intent discussing the motivation for pursuing pediatric
specialty training including goals for the next 2-5 years.
