The East Midlands Major Trauma Centre was established
in April 2012 and in the first two years saved the lives of
143 people who would have died without the Centre’s
expertise.
In May 2014 the Centre expanded to take patients from
across the East Midlands, including Royal Derby Hospital,
Burton Hospital and United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust
(which includes Boston's Pilgrim Hospital), as well as
Leicestershire, and Chesterfield Royal Hospital and
Nottinghamshire
The Centre is for patients who have multiple injuries that
could result in death or a serious disability such as severe
head injuries, falls or injuries from road accidents.
