Patient Care
a. Attending physician for hematology/oncology and blood and marrow transplantation
at Children’s Hospital of Michigan since 7/05. Responsible as primary attending
physician for approximately 15-20 pediatric patients a year in the blood and marrow
transplant unit at Children’s Hospital of MI. Also responsible for approximately 50
pediatric BMT patients in the outpatient hematology/oncology clinic at Children’s
Hospital of Michigan. Provides consultation to additional 20-30 pediatric patients for
blood and marrow transplantation. In addition to BMT patients, see diagnose and
treat approximately 15-20 new patients per year with general oncology. Provide
consultation for 50-60 patients per year for general hematology. Also attends on
inpatient hematology/oncology service.

J.P. McCarthy Cord Blood Bank
a. Medical Director- Assumed position in August 2006. Completed in March 2012 The
role of the position is to ensure that all eligible donated umbilical cords meet the
criteria for donation under the guidelines of the National Marrow and Donor Program
(NMDP). In addition to these responsibilities, the role is also to ensure that the J.P.
McCarthy Cord Blood Bank meets the requirements of the NMDP and for
accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapeutics
(FACT). It also to act as the liaison for the centers that collect umbilical cord blood
units and ensure that they follow the standard operating procedures for the Cord
Blood Bank.

b. Approved by State of MI in October 2010 with anticipated start date in October 2011.
c. Led by Elizabeth Secord, worked to get adding the screening of primary
immunodeficiency (PID) to the newborn screen done in the State of MI.

i. Special Days Camp: a camp for children with cancer. Help organize medical
coverage for the week long camp. Try to promote volunteerism in fellows and
residents. Began in 2010.
ii. Camp Sunshine: a camp for children with cancer, in the state of Georgia.
Has volunteered at Camp Sunshine since 2003.
iii. Susan G. Komen 3 Day walk: volunteered as medical crew since 2010.
iv. Northstar Reach: A special needs camp affiliated with the Serious Fun
Organization (formerly Hole-in-the-Wall Organization).
1. Anticipated special needs camp that will serve the state of Michigan.
Currently in fundraising mode to have the capital to build the camp.
Land already provided by the University of Michigan. Memorandum of
Understanding has been established with Children’s Hospital of MI.
