1 This unit standard may apply to persons commencing a new job, or to students, trainees, or others who are undergoing some form of work experience placement in an actual workplace.
2 Definition
Workplace requirements are documented policies and procedures or established protocols for workplace performance.
3 The following unit standards may be considered relevant to, and/or supportive of, this unit standard:
Unit 1978, Identify and describe basic employment rights and responsibilities, and sources of information and assistance
Unit 4248, Describe requirements and expectations faced by employees within the workplace
Unit 4249, Describe care and timeliness as an employee
Unit 10780, Complete a work experience placement .

Evidence requirements
1.1 Information and means to enable one to get to work on time are identified or obtained.
Range location of workplace, route and reliable transport options, time required for travel, payment for travel.
1.2 Prior knowledge of the upcoming workplace environment is indicated.
Range includes but is not limited to – name of the person to whom one initially reports.
1.3 Clothing, footwear and/or equipment required are identified in terms of meeting workplace requirements.
1.4 Documentation required to be presented to the employer is assembled.
Range documentation may include but is not limited to – bank account number, IRD number, birth certificate or other form of identification, evidence of qualification(s).

An agreement regarding terms of employment is confirmed.
2.1
Range the job title and the nature of work, the position description, conditions of employment including pay and hours of work.
Outcome 2
Demonstrate knowledge of the new workplace.
Evidence requirements
Layout of the workplace is described.
Range may include but is not limited to – workspace; offices; storage of tools, materials, equipment, vehicles.
2.2 Facilities and procedures fundamental to work activity, health, and safety are identified.
Range any two facilities of – cafeteria, sick bay, toilets, first aid cabinet, civil defence cabinet; procedures must include but are not limited to
– safety devices and exits, health and safety systems, emergency procedures.
Any immediate supervisors and team leaders are identified by name, title, and role.

3.1 Clothing, footwear, and personal presentation are in accordance with workplace requirements.
