2014 NYSECTA Exceptional Leadership Award For An Elementary School Principal Award Description This award is given to an elementary school principal who demonstrates exceptional leadership and dedication, always inspiring, advocating for and supporting his/her teachers and students, in and out of the classroom. Rules for Eligibility The nominee must: Be employed by a public, private, independent school or a BOCES; and, Have at least three-years experience as an elementary principal. The nominee shows evidence of: Exceptional leadership and advocacy on behalf of their students, teachers and their school communities. Continuously inspiring students, parents, teachers, staff and fellow administrators with his/her commitment to quality elementary education. Significant support in two or more of the following areas, as it relates to exceptional school leadership: curriculum development; utilization of technology; program improvement and innovation; staff development; and/or, resource acquisition. Nomination Process Principals must be nominated for this award using the NYSECTA Awards Nomination Form. A letter of notification will be sent to each nominee, congratulating them on their nomination and encouraging them to complete the NYSECTA Award Application. Application Process The Award Application includes: Application Part I; Application Part II, Essential Questions; and, Application Part III, minimum of two (up to three) letters of endorsement. Selection Process Six NYSECTA members make up the Exceptional Leadership Award for an Elementary School Principal Selection Committee, including elementary principals. Timeline Nominations must be sent to the NYSECTA Central Office by Monday, March 31, 2014. Completed Applications are due to awards@nysecta.org by Sunday, May 11, 2014. Award recipients will be notified the week of June 9, 2014.
