CENTENNIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT MARCH MADNESS PROGRAM March Madness is a 3 on 3 Basketball tournament held each year throughout the Centennial School District. Each elementary school holds individual boys and girls tournaments for 4 th and 5th graders throughout February and March. After the champions of each school are crowned, we hold a District Championship. (Format to be determined due to the consolidation of schools) We have two Championship Basketballs that have been inscribed with each year’s winners and passed around from school to school since the district-wide tournaments began. Additional Notes about March Madness: 2013 is the 16th Year of March Madness in Centennial. March Madness started at Davis School in 1998. (Approximately 60 Students) Expanded to Stackpole School in 2000. (Approximately 150 Students) First Inter-District Championship held in 2000. (Davis vs. Stackpole) Expanded to McDonald School in 2002. (Approximately 300 Students) Expanded to all 6 Elementary Schools in 2004 (Approximately 600 Students) The program has consistently drawn between 500-600 students a year since 2004. Each school has their own trophy celebration (Medals at Willow Dale) and awards trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in their school tournaments. Additionally, each school awards a Sportsmanship Award for one girl and one boy. (The most important award, in my opinion.) Each participant has the opportunity to purchase a t-shirt commemorating their experience. b D:\308873977.doc 2/5/2016
