ST. MARY’S R.C. PRIMARY SCHOOL CLUB LANE, CHIPPING PR3 2QH HEADTEACHER Mrs Mary Morris TEL/Fax 01995 61367 E-MAIL head@st-marys-chipping.lancs.sch.uk 6th July 2015 Dear Parents, Friends and Children. Mrs Rollinson Mrs Rollinson came to see me last Friday and has asked me to tell you that she has made the decision to resign from her teaching position at St. Mary’s. It has been a very difficult time for her and she has appreciated the support that she has been given from the staff, governors and parents. She also appreciates your patience and understanding as have I. We wish her all the very best for the future and we hope that she will come and see us all when she is ready to do so. We are going to buy a leaving present for her so if you would like to contribute, please send any monies into the school office before the end of the week. Many thanks for this. A letter will be sent out before we break up for the summer holidays with details about how we are going to organise the classrooms in September and a parents evening will be organised in early September also to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. School Business Support Officer The governors and I are very pleased to announce that Mrs Lisa Cookson has been appointed to take over from Mrs Bailey in September. Her experience of working at the CCCA and the Village Hall, coupled with her knowledge about the local community is a great strength. We look forward to working with Mrs Cookson and we hope that she will be very happy with us at St. Mary’s Primary School and I know that you will all welcome her to the school. Classroom Painting I asked the Friends of St. Mary’s PTA for financial help to paint one of the junior classrooms ready for the autumn term and they have suggested that to save money, we should ask if any parents would be able to come into school instead to do the work. I therefore propose that the first Sunday after we break up (19th July) will be a classroom painting day and also outside painting day for gates and fences etc. Mr Procter has already said that he is available on this day – thanks Mr Procter! If you can come into school for an hour or so on the 19th between 10am and 3pm please will you email me before the end of the week and then I can start putting a plan together. If we don’t have enough interest, then we will have to go with the professional painter. Chickens We would like to thank Mrs Fairclough for power-washing the chicken coop out last week. She has very kindly ST. MARY’S R.C. Please talk to either her or Mrs Butcher if you are able to help out in any way at all. Swimming Lessons Tomorrow morning will be the last swimming lesson for years 1 and 2. They will begin again in September. More details to follow. After-school clubs All after-school clubs have now finished for this term. Thank you to all the adults who have helped to run them this term. Guitar Lessons Mik will be in school on Tuesday, 7 th July for guitar lessons. Year 5/6 Taster Day at St. Cecilia’s Year 5 and 6 have been invited to spend the day at St. Cecilia’s on Friday 10 th July. They will need to be dropped off there at 9am and picked up at 3pm. Their lunch will be provided for them and they will need to take trainers with them. Please contact us if you need help with transport. Joseph – Production, Monday 13th July 2015 The children have been working really hard on their production of Joseph and are looking forward to performing for an audience. There will be a performance at 1.30pm and one at 6.30pm. There will be refreshments being served before the performances and any donations collected will be used to help the Nepal disaster fund – a cause that the children have chosen themselves. School Trip – Tuesday 14th July We will be going on our school trip to Bispham ice-skating rink and then Blackpool Tower Circus on Tuesday, 14th July. Mr Thorpe (who has now completed his teaching practise and has secured a job at Anchorsholme Primary School in Blackpool) will meet us there with Mrs Thorpe who is the lead skating instructor. Mrs Thorpe has requested that the children bring thick gloves, warm socks and long trousers and a warm coat. They do not need to be in their school uniform apart from their jumpers which makes them easily identifiable. It does seem however, that we may have the rink to ourselves. If you feel safer sending your child with a ST. MARY’S R.C. At the rink they have little penguins that the children can hold onto whilst they move on the ice to keep them upright. The trip has been fully risk assessed and safety measures will be put in place. The children will need a packed lunch. Winmarleigh Hall Residential Trip At the beginning of September, we will have a parents meeting to discuss what the children will need when they go to Winmarleigh Hall and what to expect when they get there. We have a DVD to watch and kit lists to give out. Reports Reports will be coming home with the children next week on Wednesday. As stated earlier in the letter, there will be a parents meeting in early September for you discuss the reports with a member of staff and an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have. I hope that you all have a good week. Mrs Morris
