STUDENT CLUBS 2008-2009
Chattahoochee Elementary faculty and staff offer fourth and fifth
graders the opportunity to participate in several before-school clubs. All
clubs will meet from 7:05-7:45 a.m. on the days listed on the charts
below. Students who participate in Student Council, Safety Patrol or the
School Store may also be a member of a club. Membership in a club will
be determined on a “first-come, fist served” basis, in hopes that
everyone who is interested in a club will be placed in at least one club of
their choice.
Students must maintain an S or E in conduct and Special Areas to be a
part of any club. They must also be regular in attendance. Students may
not change clubs. However, they may register for more than one club.
Descriptions of the clubs are below.
Please direct any questions to Mrs. Buchanan or Mrs. Collins, co-chairs of
the Club Committee.

Chess Club
The Chess Club is available for interested fourth and fifth grade
students, regardless of their chess playing ability. At the first class
meeting, students will be given a quiz to assess their basic knowledge of
chess. Videos will be shown on chess basics, openings, and endgame
strategies. All members will be learning new problem solving skills and will
have the opportunity to play chess with new friends.
Chorus Club
allows fourth and fifth grade
students to experience the pleasure and enjoyment of music while at the
same time making them aware of a quality sound and performance. The
Chorus represents Chattahoochee Elementary School not only in
performances at school, but also in the community. Club members are
asked to make the commitment to attend rehearsals before school, to
learn the music, and to be present for all performances. Parents are
asked to provide transportation to rehearsals and performances and to
provide a chorus uniform or costume.
Clay Club provides 5th grade students with an
opportunity for creative exploration and artistic expression! Students
will learn about many different processes of hand building with clay, as
well as different glaze and paint techniques. Some of the exciting
ceramics projects will include vases, rattles, and coil bowls. All materials
are included.
Crochet Club
The Crochet Club will be learning the basic skills and patterns to produce
simple, beginning crocheted pieces. The students will be taught how to
chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. Using these
basic stitches, the students will create beautiful handmade crocheted
pieces. All supplies will be provided.
Drama Club
Acting helps students focus, concentrates their energies, and improves
their writing and communication skills- tools useful in every aspect of
life. Participants will expand their imaginations and learn how to express
themselves with their voices and their bodies. This year’s performance
will be Wizard of Oz. There will be auditions for speaking parts, sets,
and props.
Math Club
engages fourth and fifth grade
students with enjoyable problem solving activities. Math Club will focus
on strategies for playing Witzzle Pro, a game that strengthens students’
basic math facts through problem solving. These challenges are fun and
exciting. The math club will represent Chattahoochee at a Witzzle Pro
tournament.
Roadrunners Running Club
This will be our third year of the Roadrunners Running Club. Roadrunners
will promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles through running
activities and games. The club will provide knowledge and skills about
running, but most importantly, Roadrunners Running Club will provide an
opportunity to improve cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance
through walking, jogging and running., Students in Roadrunners need to
enjoy physical activity and should come prepared to run and have fun!
Roadrunners will be open to fifth graders.
Jr. Science Explorers Club
Students will participate in the scientific method as a process. They will
form a question, state a hypothesis and test it using experiments. Club
members will use creative ways to analyze and display their findings. This
club is open to 4th graders.

Technology Club
The Technology Club will be open to 4th and 5th grade students who are
interested in learning how to use the computer to create! Each week we
will have a lesson and build on work completed to achieve a final product.
The goal is to provide each member with technology experience using
programs and computer “tools”.
Writers Club
Want to get published? This year our writers in Writer’s Club will have a
chance to polish their writing for publication on our school website. You
can write in any genre…poetry, fantasy, informational, or persuasive. You
might even want to post reviews of your favorite books! Writers will get
tips and feedback for revising and editing. Get your strong leads ready!
We want to hear your story!
OTHER STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Safety Patrol
5th grade teachers recommend students to participate in safety patrol
based on grades, behavior, and level of responsibility. Patrols report to
positions during arrival and dismissal of student body and are responsible
for assisting in the monitoring of hallways, stairwells, bus lanes, and car
drop off areas. Once recommended, students can remain on safety patrol
throughout their 5th grade year.
When a student is selected to be a safety patrol member, he/she will
need to have before and after school transportation arranged.
Student Council
The Chattahoochee Student Council consists of active and involved
fourth and fifth grade students. Its mission is to help both the school
and community through service work, and to provide leadership
experience and in the process a working knowledge of government. A few
of its ongoing projects are tutoring ESOL students, manning the School
Store, and raising funds for worthy causes through an annual Used Book
Sale.
The Student Council members are chosen through an application and
interview process during the month of May for the following year. The
Student Council Advisory Committee looks for student leaders to
represent the entire student body.
