Placement F2 Anaesthesia & Intensive Care The department The department comprises a 7-bedded ICU and 4- bedded HDU staffed by 11 Consultants and some specialty trainees. There are 11 theatres, a Day Case Unit and Delivery Suite manned by 26 Consultant Anaesthetists, 4 Associate Specialists and Specialty trainees Good clinical care in ICU and HDU with the admission and care of patients. In theatre managing peri-operative care and post-operative requirements of surgical patients Role and limitations of protocols for care can be explored. Role of evidence based practice. Ethical issues in the context of delivering or withholding treatment Pre and post-operative care. In ICU and HDU both with patients and their relatives Working with colleagues in ICU and HDU as part of a multi-disciplinary team Importance of effective handover Ample opportunity to manage patients who are critically ill at every stage of their illness from resuscitation to on-going care to discharge from a critical care area.
