Minutes from Previous Meetings Transfer of Bank Account Mrs Law, Mrs Gebbie and Mrs Wylie are required to take photo ID and address ID into the Bank of Scotland - Irvine Branch in order for the transfer of signatures of the Parent Council account to take place. Replacement Window Project Mr Hawkes informed the meeting that due to N.A.C. budget cuts large projects already agreed have now been prioritised. This means that the window replacements in school will not now go ahead. Mr Hawkes will however stress the need for the replacement of the windows in the Upper school open area which are a health and safety issue. Periimeter Fence The work to replace the school perimeter fence has now been completed within the agreed timescale. Enrolment Week 41 pupils have enrolled in Glebe Primary from within our catchment area and there are approximately 13 placing request from other areas. N.A.C. council will be required to ballot applications for the remaining places. This will result in 2 P1 classes each with 25 pupils. Mr Hawkes advised that due to class sizes within the middle school, it will be most likely that a composite class will be formed and the school structure will be made up of 13 classes. However, the staffing structure for session 2010/11 has just been submitted to N.A.C and Mr Hawkes awaits ratification. There will be retrials this session within the staff and N.A.C will decide if these posts will be filled by probationers, compulsory transfers or by interviews. School Plan Mr Hawkes informed the meeting that with the publication of “Building the Curriculum 5”, Assessment will form a large part of the school plan for session 2010/11. Mrs MacKenzie is currently working with cluster schools on new assessment procedures. 4. Matters Arising Lunch Procedures Mr Rhodes asked for clarification on dinner hall procedures and pupils sitting on the floor to have their lunch. Mr Hawkes advised that all pupils having packed lunches should sit on the benches apart from P1 children who require space at the lunch tables. All pupils having a lunch from the catering service also sit at the lunch tables. Parking Mrs Wallace suggested that N.A.C provide a road sign at the top of Kirk Vennel indicating “no right turn at busy times” in order to avoid congestion at the beginning and the end of the school day. Mr Hawkes will suggest to Mrs MacAdam that she involves the JRSO’s in this suggestion and discuss it with Fiona Cameron N.A.C. Road Safety Officer. 5. Budget Cuts Mr Hawkes issued all Council members with a copy of the N.A.C. budget cuts for 2010/11. It was highlighted that the main impact of these on Glebe will be the reduction of 0.1 of management time, the discontinuation of after school services and the introduction of the statutory minimum distance for school transport. Mrs Wallace asked how this information will be disseminated to parents and when the changes will come into force. Mr Hawkes agreed to determine timescales for these issues and inform the Council. 6 A Curriculum for Excellence Presentation Mr Hawkes will hold a presentation on the Curriculum for Excellence currently being developed in Scottish schools. He suggested that this takes the form of an open evening for all parents at the next scheduled Parent Council Meeting on the Mon 10th May. It was suggested that it may be beneficial to hold this in June after the Parent Evenings. It was agreed however, that as each stage in school will be inviting parents to attend an ACE Showcase within their class during March and May, it may be more meaningful to opt for the earlier date. June is a very busy month in school and the school Gala is also scheduled to take place in early June. Date of Next Meeting Mon 10th May 2010 S.Law 3/10
