The concert will be on November 30 at 9:30 am. Please encourage your children to keep practicing! If you are renting an instrument from the school board, please note that invoices have gone out. Please pay the rental fee as soon as you can, and contact either Ms. Haughian or the office if you have any issues. SRC The St. Edward SRC students would like your help collecting toys and money to be given to the pediatric unit at Royal University Hospital. Items will be collected in classrooms and donated before Christmas. See the attached poster for more information. Turn Markers Into Energy! St. Edward School will be working with Crayola through a program called ColorCycle to send used markers to a facility that will convert them into clean fuel. This will help provide energy for things like powering vehicles and heating homes and will help keep markers out of our landfills. Each classroom will have a plastic container that will be used to collect any used markers (even nonCrayola brand). Thank you in advance for participating! Kingfisher, Leask, SK Nicole Gantner, Saskatoon, SK Bradly Malach, Saskatoon, SK Morgan Reagan, Saskatoon, SK Seasonal Influenza Campaign - 2015-16 In an average year, 10-20% of people get sick from influenza. Rates of infection are highest in children aged 5-9 years. One in 6 seniors with lab confirmed influenza disease needed hospitalization last year. Getting the influenza vaccine will reduce disease, hospitalization and deaths. Last year, 563 cases of influenza were reported in Saskatoon Health Region. Overall 31% of the cases were hospitalized. In Canada there were 598 deaths (7,905 hospitalized). Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory infection that is most serious in children under 5, persons with medical conditions, pregnant women, and seniors. Protect you and your family. Influenza, otherwise known as “flu”, is a contagious disease caused by a virus. It is spread from infected persons to the nose or throat of others by coughing, sneezing, direct contact, or contact with objects the infected person may have touched. Symptoms of influenza include fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, weakness, cough, sore throat and sneezing. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are not common with influenza. You can protect yourself from influenza with frequent hand washing, the use of alcohol-based hand gels, and avoiding contact with individuals who have influenza-like illness. If you become sick with influenza, stay home, wash your hands frequently, and cough or sneeze into your sleeve to avoid spreading the virus to others. Each fall, influenza vaccine is made available to protect against three of the most common viruses shown to cause severe infection. This means the vaccine changes from year to year. Visit the website at www.4flu.ca for other clinic locations and times or call 655-4FLU (655-4538) for more information. When should your child stay home from school?
