1. Subscription Databases
The following databases can be accessed from the ‘Databases’ link on the e-Library
homepage.
Embase
A major biomedical and pharmaceutical database covering the following fields: drug
research, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, toxicology, clinical and experimental human
medicine, health policy and management, public health, occupational health, environmental
health, drug dependence and abuse, psychiatry, forensic medicine, and biomedical
engineering/instrumentation. Widely used biomedical and pharmaceutical databases because
of its currency and in-depth indexing. Coverage: 1980 - current. Access is available to NHS
affiliated staff and students from all sectors.

Medline
MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database
covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care
system, and the preclinical sciences. Coverage: 1966 - current. Access is available to NHS
affiliated staff and students from all sectors.
Use ATHENS username and password.

and care, abdominal pain, appendicitis and intestinal obstruction. The book is edited by Mark
A. Graber, MD and Matthew L. Lanternier, MD from the University of Iowa College of
Medicine, and is externally peer-reviewed by Mosby. It is published online by University of
Iowa Virtual Hospital. This is the fourth edition.

information and resources for health care professionals, with the focus mainly on dentistry. It

The Infection Control Nurses Association (ICNA) is a professional organisation that aims to
advance the speciality of infection prevention and control through education, professional
development and research. It works with professional bodies, industry, government agencies
and voluntary organisations in the prevention and control of infection, and is at the forefront
of initiatives in hospital and community settings. The website provides information about
ICNA, news, details of publications and products and links to related resources. There are
also contents and abstracts from the British Journal of Infection Control. Additional features
are accessible only to ICNA members.
Intensive Care Society
