Junior High Girls Basketball Team Rules I. Attendance A. Attendance to all practices and games is mandatory. 1. Policy of Participation. a. Athletes must attend school for the entire day on a game day to play b. Athletes must attend school the entire day or have a pre-arranged to practice c. Athletes must attend school the day after a game 2. Consequences of Absenteeism (game or practice) a. 1 unexcused absence = sit one game b. 2 unexcused absence = sit two games and meeting with parents c. 3.unexcused absence = removal from team 3. Consequences of Tardiness (game or practice) a. First tardy = sit two quarters b. Second tardy = sit one game and meeting with parents c. Third tardy = removal from team 4. Exceptions a. Absent Due to Illness(must leave a message for the coach) b. Special circumstances approved by the coach c. Attending an after school tutoring session d. Pre-arranged absence with office e. Doctors note II. Behavior A. As a CPS athlete you will represent our school and team in a positive and respectful manner at all times. 1. Personal Conduct Inside the Building. a. Athletes will follow student code of conduct b. Athletes will follow their teacher’s classroom rules c. Athletes will be respectful & represent the school in a positive manner 2. Academic Conduct Inside the Building. a. Athletes must pass every single class to play in games b. Athletes must take grades home every Friday and bring them back signed by parents on Monday to play in competition that week c. Athletes must have every assignment turned in to play 3. Personal Conduct at Games & Practice a. Athletes will sit directly behind the bench during games with team members only b. Athletes will be respectful to team members, officials, opposition team members, parents, and spectators c. Athletes that have to sit out a game will sit with coach dressed up or in uniform 4. Personal Conduct Outside of Building. a. Refer to athletic policy for specifics 5. Consequences a. First Offense = sit a game b. Second Offense = sit two games and meeting with parents c. Third Offense = removal from team III. Dress A. Athletes will dress classy at practice and on games days. 1. Home Games a. Nice jeans b. Team shirts or school apparel 2. Away Games a. Dress, skirt, or dress pants b. Dress shirt with collar 3. Practice a. Tennis shoes that tie tight ( I recommend high tops to protect ankles) b. Shorts or sweat pants c. Practice jersey or tee shirt 4. Games a. Correct color jersey and shorts b. No jewelry or metal hair clips c. Tennis shoes 5. Consequences a. First Offense = sit a game b. Second Offense = sit two games and meeting with parents c. Third Offense = removal from team IV. Rides A. Athletes will be picked up from all events in a timely manner. At no time will the coach supply a player with a ride home. 1. Practice a. Athletes will be released on time at every practice b. Athletes must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after practice c. If there is a problem please contact the coach prior to practice 2. Games a. Athletes will call home from the bus 15 minutes before our arrival b. Athletes must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after arrival c. Athletes must ride the bus home from away games unless they have a written note from parents. Athletes will only be allowed to leave games with parent or guardian. 3. Consequences a. First Offense = sit out one quarter b. Second Offense = sit out one game and meeting with parents c. Third Offense = removal from team V. Parents A. Parents have the right to meet with the coach to discuss a question, thought, or concern regarding their athlete. 1. Linguistics a. Must be scheduled one day in advance (before or after practice) b. Coach will not have personal discussions regarding concerns directly following a game 2. Team Dinners a. Parents may provide food for the team before home games b. Let coach know one day prior to the game if you wish to do this 3. Stopping after Games a. We will stop to eat after certain away games. You will know two days before a game if we are going to do this 4. Physicals a. Child must have physical before they can practice or compete in games 5. Playing Time a. Every athlete that comes to every practice, works hard, and follows the team rules will play in every game b. Playing time may not always be equal (depending on situations/circumstances) If you have a problem with this refer to the coaches meeting procedure and we will discuss it. 6. Injuries a. Basketball is a physical sport and there is a chance your child may get injured b. May sure you provide me with updated contact information so I can get a hold of you if something happens at a practice or game 7. Academics a. Your child’s grades are more important to me than their participation in basketball b. I encourage you to send your child to a NHS tutoring session or Saturday School if they are struggling academically. c. NHS tutoring runs every Tuesday/Thursday 3:00pm- 4:00pm d.
