Michael Galluzzo, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum,
Instruction and Human Resources, Announces Retirement effective
June 30, 2012
Kim Wynne Appointed Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum,
Instruction and Human Resources effective July 1, 2012
(For immediate release: Farmington Public Schools - Tuesday, February 28, 2012) Mr. Michael Galluzzo, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Human
Resources and former Principal of East Farms School, will retire effective June 30, 2012.
Michael Galluzzo is an extraordinary leader who has served the Farmington community with
considerable distinction as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal and Assistant Superintendent
for over 32 years. His deep knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning has provided
guidance and support to countless teachers and administrative leaders over the course of his
career in Farmington. Mr. Galluzzo has led curriculum, instruction and human resources during
a time of significant transformation with the implementation of the school district’s new five
year goals. His accomplishments and contributions are vast and reflect a deep commitment to
the students, faculty, staff, parents and community of Farmington.
Superintendent Greider states, “Mike Galluzzo will be greatly missed. As a long-time teacher
and administrator in Farmington, he has shaped the school district’s improvement work over the
past three decades. His impact on the students of Farmington will be felt for many years to
come. We are all so fortunate to have worked with such a highly expert and caring educator.
The entire Farmington school district community wishes Mike Galluzzo the very best in his
retirement.”
Michael Galluzzo said, “I am deeply indebted to the many outstanding colleagues with whom I
have had the privilege of working during my 32 years with the Farmington Schools. It has been
a privilege to have had a work life that touched the growth and development of thousands of
young people and to have established partnerships and associations with their families. The
Farmington Schools are my second family.”
Superintendent Kathleen C. Greider is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Kimberly
Wynne to the position of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Human
Resources effective July 1, 2012. The Farmington Board of Education appointed Kim Wynne,
current Director of Curriculum, to the position of Assistant Superintendent last evening. Ms.
Wynne has been a Farmington teacher and administrator since 1985. Ms. Wynne brings high
expectations, accountability to results and a deep knowledge of curriculum and instruction to the
position of Assistant Superintendent. Superintendent Greider states, “Ms. Wynne is an
exceptional leader who brings significant expertise in curriculum development, instructional best
practices and school improvement to the position of Assistant Superintendent. Her deep
understanding of the Farmington school district, coupled with her innovative approach to
improvement will accelerate our improvement efforts so that all students achieve academic and
personal excellence, exhibit persistent effort and live as resourceful, inquiring and contributing
global citizens.”
Ms. Wynne states, “This is an exciting time of opportunity and challenge in education, and I am
proud to serve the parents, students, and faculty of the Farmington school community. Together
we will realize our ambitious goal of high levels of academic achievement, leadership, and
global citizenship for every Farmington student.”
A search for a new Director of Curriculum will begin immediately.
Mike Galluzzo’s Brief Bio:
Mr. Galluzzo began his career as a teacher at the West Side Montessori School in New York. He
then became a Farmington teacher in 1976 and was later appointed to the position of Assistant
Principal of Irving Robbins Junior High School in 1981. Mr. Galluzzo briefly left the Farmington
Public Schools to take a Principal position at Lake Garda School in Burlington, Connecticut. In
1987, Mr. Galluzzo returned to the Farmington Public Schools as Principal of East Farms
Elementary School where he was responsible for re-opening a school that had been closed. He
worked collaboratively with parents, faculty and staff to rebuild a culture of excellence at East
Farms School. As a result of Mr. Galluzzo’s collaborative approach to leadership, East Farms
School has a remarkable track record of success.
Mr. Galluzzo has earned numerous awards and distinctions at the local, state and national levels.
In 2000, Mr. Galluzzo was awarded the Al Raffone Distinguished Leadership Citation by the
Elementary and Middle School Principal’s Association. As a 2004 National Principal of Year,
Mr. Galluzzo gained a global perspective when our Commissioner of Education invited him to
participate in Connecticut Shandong Education Leadership Delegation. As a school Principal,
East Farms School earned the prestigious United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon
School of Excellence award in 1996-97. As Assistant Superintendent, he led the school district’s
efforts in curriculum, instruction and human resources during a time of significant improvement
aligned to the school district’s new five-year goals. In collaboration with faculty and staff, he
initiated new spotlight accountability measures, a new district theory of action, the
implementation of the Framework for Teaching and Learning, a Cambridge Pre-U pilot and the
first phase of the Common Core State Standards implementation.
Kim Wynne’s Brief Bio:
Ms. Wynne began her career as the founder and director of the Discovery Day School in Bristol.
In 1985, she joined the Farmington Public Schools as a West District Elementary School teacher.
From 1986-1992, Ms. Wynne worked as a Thinking Skills/Staff Development Coordinator,
working K-12 on the development and implementation of a districtwide framework for Teaching
Of, For and About Thinking. Ms. Wynne moved on to a Language Arts Resource Teacher
position at IAR from 1995-2004 where she developed K-12 language arts standards, facilitated
departmental meetings and initiated a peer coaching program for teachers. From 2003-2007, Ms.
Wynne served as the Townwide Reading Consultant, developing and overseeing comprehensive
program improvement initiatives K-12. Currently, Ms. Wynne serves as the K-12 Director of
Curriculum where she works closely with district and school level personnel on literacy
curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Ms. Wynne acquired her administrative certificate from the University of Connecticut. In 1985,
she graduated from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education where she earned her
Masters Degree in School Improvement Leadership. Ms. Wynne acquired her undergraduate
degree from Vassar College in English and Education in 1978.
