OLD BUSINESS
1. None to discuss.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Megan Smith – Guidance
a. Senior Awards Day will be done differently this year - it will be an school-wide event from
approximately 8:00-11:00am. Everyone will be invited, seniors will walk in with cap and
gown, there will be a ceremony for the juniors, and we will recognize additional students.
(Example - Each department will elect a student of the year to receive an award) We will
possibly do undergrad awards during this time as well. Parents are invited and it will take
place in the gym with seniors on the floor and a stage set up for presentation. Mr. Walters
asked if there is enough space that maybe we can invite 8th grade to check it out. Mrs. Erdie
said we will have to look at space, but mentioned that we may implement a “moving up” day
for the 8th graders to get them acclimated better.
b. She mentioned that students are complaining about having the same subjects on different
grading scales for each classe offered. Mrs. Erdie says all classes are now on the same
grading scale (93-100, etc) unless it is written in a specific student’s IEP as needing 10 point
scale.
2. Jason Brilliant/Sunni Hill/Joanna Kesler – Foreign Language, English, and EC
a. Printing is taking from copy count and we didn’t realize this would happen. Mrs. Erdie says
that is correct, but it seems that some copier counts may be off on the and will need to be
fixed. Printers will be taken away and all teachers will be printing to copy machines
eventually. Copy counts may increase once allotment/instructional money is settled.
3. Jason Brilliant – Foreign Language
a. There is a concern for teachers having unbalanced classes within the same subjects. Megan
Smith and Mrs. Erdie said with how core classes lay out, it’s almost impossible to rearrange
students to make it even.
4. Jennifer Johnson – Math
a. Can we go back to having teacher recommendations for honors? Mrs. Erdie says this will not
go well with the county. We cannot keep a student from challenging themselves with higher
level classes. Megan Smith said Guidance does tell students what is expected of them in these
higher classes before they sign up.
5. Jennifer Johnson – Math
a. There are questions about the guidelines for ILT - is every teacher telling students the same
thing? Mrs. Erdie says that once we get on a regular basis we will be seeing things settle.
Students who are “cruising” will need to eventually find somewhere to be during ILT.
ITEMS FROM THE FLOOR
1. Sunni Hill – English
a. Is there a possibility of keeping the same homeroom over the years? Megan Smith and
Mrs. Erdie explained the only issue would be students who enroll and unenroll so we will
have to work on it, but it may be a possibility.
2. Blaire Goodale – CTE
a. What would be the best way for CTE teachers to complete their PLC logs since we teach
so many different classes and don’t have common planning? Mrs. Erdie said we may use
our district PLCs and statewide PLCs to complete our logs.
3. Reid Walters – Social Studies
a. There is a concern of laptops not having CD drives. Can we see about getting department
CD drives? Mrs. Erdie says we are looking at purchasing some for the media center to be
checked out and we can possibly look at purchasing for departments or using
commissioner’s money to purchase them.
4. Dean Orbison – Art
a. Where do you want us to be during ILT duty? Mrs. Erdie explained that of the three
teachers assigned who are not core teachers, one needs to stand in the following areas:
cafeteria, commons, and courtyard.
5. Mrs. Erdie – Principal
a. Our new assistant principal, Chris Hoyt is coming to us from an elementary school in
CMS of 1400 students. She has a balanced literacy background, she’s certified in history
and has a Masters in EC. She has been in some tough areas with difficult students. Her
start date is September 29th.
6. FYI - County Commissioner money is coming.
7. Overall School Goals – Mrs. Erdie
a. We discussed and agreed on three main goals for our school as a whole. These goals will
be sent out in survey form to staff in order to vote.
Jennifer Johnson closed the meeting at 3:50pm.
