Our organisation established in 1975. In year 1991 actively began intervention with mentally challenged children by making efforts to fulfil their education and training needs, while conducting this programme main problem encounter limited financial resources. When we have discussion with VIBHA's member Mrs. Seema Chetal about our such need base project of Ajmer district. We also discussed about different aspect of our project and where VIBHA can support this project. From this discussion it is come out that VIBHA could support our C.B.R. programme, which was come to an end because withdrawal of (CRY) Child Relief & You support. VIBHA could also support in vocational training, speech therapy, physiotherapy & medical aspect of the programme for holistic development of M. R. Children and to make them self-reliant & rehabilitate within the community. Aim of this project is to conduct intervention and rehabilitation programme for mentally retarded children with the intention to make them self-sufficient by involving family and community. MAJOR ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED IN THIS QUARTER. - Community base rehabilitation programme. - Vocational training programme. - Speech & physiotherapy programme. - Social integration programme. (A) C.B.R. (Community Based Rehabilitation) Programme :From August 2003 C.B.R. programme was restarted. First of all contact session was conducted in month of August. The children those who left with no training facility due to closed down of C.B.R. programme was contacted again; Parents interest regarding this programme was seen and according to their interest & time availability visit plan was formulated. Parents who were nil interested about this programme, was motivated through counseling. After contact session regular C.B.R. programme was started from mid of September. Fortnightly programme was planned for each child. Children were distributed according to the area they belongs and time chart for week days visit has formulated with the concern of parents for transparence and regular monitoring. In the quarterly review meeting C.B.R. worker suggested that visit plan has to be revised again for including more children in this programme. At the end of first quarter under C.B.R. programme 102 number of children is getting fortnightly intervention. Children having age group in-between 5 to 45 is getting benefit from this programme. 75% of the parents is showing total dedication and support to carryout the programme, rest 25% of the parents is not much interested in C.B.R. programme through regular counseling C.B.R. worker is trying to motivate the parents in supporting child development. Page 2 of 6 D:\681446558.doc Rajasthan Mahila Kalyan Mandal, Ajmer (B) Vocational Training Programme :Vocational training programme is regular programme of day care centre 9 children are under vocational class and 4 children under pre-vocational training. Our aim is to make M.R. Children self reliant and productive in the community. As per the season & festival change of trade is necessary for vocational programme; hence in month of August considering "Raksha Bandhan festival" the children at the centre made Rakhis. These Rakhis were sold to parents. Parents appreciated this activity of their children, parents felt valiant of their children work. Some parents responded that they never thought their child can able to this work. A part from that children enjoyed this work very much, they tied their own Rakhi on the festival day. They showed their work to neighbour, friend & relatives, who appreciated their work which risen their self-confidence; they started taking part in other vocational activity very keenly. In month of September, vocational children were engaged in paper bag making, pearls neckless, breslate making, on the occasion of "Diwali" these children made a greeting cards & decorated Deepak lamps. Greetings cards made by our children was sold in different normal school & Deepak were purchased by the parents. In this quarter main problem occurred was discontinuation of vocational teacher. New teacher who were appointed left the job due to lack of knowledge about these children, new teacher couldn't work with these children. Hence it is decided to appoint trained DVT (Diploma in Vocational Training) person who has under gone training to trained vocational activity to these children. In this regard we have contacted National Institute of Mentally Handicapped (NIMH) Secunderabad who conduct DVT training course. They suggested one candidate from Calcutta with whom we have started our discussion. We assume that this candidate will join to our organisation but we have to revised salary part. (C) Speech and Physiotherapy Programme:M.R. Children always have associated problem such as speech or physio which need to be address for his/her holistic development. (i) Speech therapy programme :For speech therapy total 26 children is covered in this quarter. Speech is depend on lip, tong, hard pallet, soft pallet and jaws proper functioning. It means if problem arise in the mechanism of above mentioned organs speech get effected these organ helps in chewing engulfing sucking activity. Hence to bring these organs in function, regular exercise is required. In stimulation programme children made to do exercises that help them to control drooling problem as well as it helps them in chewing, engulfing, sucking. Stimulation programme followed for the student, in this programme within their own class group speech therapy was given by different playing activity such as blowing candle, blowing small pieces of paper and in music class blowing flute through this activity children stimulised for speech therapy. Then after a quarter individual group therapy will be planned according to their needs. (ii) Physiotherapy :In this quarter total 14 number of children were given physiotherapy regularly. Individual physiotherapy was planned for these children with the help of their parents. In this therapy programme parents trained to practice physiotherapy activity at home. (D) Activities which are carried out at the Day Care Centre are as follows :01. Prayer, physical exercise & yoga. 02. Motor Activity. 03. Activities of daily living. 04. Language. 05. Reading and Writing. 06. Number and Time. 07. Music Therapy 08. Games 09. Counseling along with these activities which are regularly carried out. Psychiatrist check the children and give them medicine to treat their behavioural problem. (E) Social Integration Programme :To socialize our children within the society to furnish their creative skills such as dance, music, singing we organised different function it also help to children to understand decorate of social place & function; (i) 15th August Programme :15th August "Independent day" was celebrated by our children Dr. Shri Gopal Baheti former president of UTI was Chief Guest who hosted the flag. After this different children programmed performed by our student was appreciated by parents & Guest, Chief Guest in his speech, appreciate our organization work though by professional Chief Guest is a doctor he said to work with M.R. Children is very challenging work and need lot of patience and courage. (ii) Ganesh Festival :10 days Ganesh Festival was celebrated at Day Care Centre. On first day with worship of lord Ganesha's statue; this 10 days festival celebration started. Most of the parents came forward to support for celebration of this festival. Some parents provided Laddos (sweet) for lord Ganesha's some has provided worship auxiliary, some has provided working lunch for students. This festival celebrated with joy and happiness and come to end with GaneshVisarjana ceremony. (iii) Dandia Festival :2nd October 2003 at civil lines ground first time in a Ajmer Dandia Ras was organized by our organisation. Our children and their parents faces were filled with joy. The reason is our children never get chance to play Dandia in public Dandia Ras because of their deformity; their parents also unable to take their children in such a places because normal person did not understand the problem of special children. Through this Dandia we were able to show to creativity and potential of our children to the society. It also helps parents to analyze their child activity in a social function.
